center storage question

center storage question
I found a small plastic plate in the bottom of the center storage compartment in 2016 MB E350 sport. I fits into a opening in the back wall of the storage compartment and there is a round hole just below the plate when it is fitted to the opening. Does anyone know what this is intended to do?

Just went and had a look in the center console of my 2016 e-350 sport ( same as yours). I have that same cover plate at the rear of the box with the hole under it, so it is not just your car. Absolutely no idea what it could be , maybe someone will answer the question for us
