2012 Om642 Diesel 3.0l AWD installed in a RWD ?

Hi I have a question for the group. Is it possible to install a Diesel 3.0l AWD in to Another Diesel RWD ? My motor blown on my 2013 Bluetec and I have another 2013 AWD Bluetec both are 3.0l engines. I would like to remove the AWD upper oil pan and install the motor. Both engines are om642 & diesel . Any help would be appreciated.

I need a long block and i was wondering if i could just switch the parts and build me a engine.

Unless you have knowledge of the exact differences between the two variants of the engine ( I am certain they have different part specifications ), you are likely to get into trouble quickly. If the oil pan is already different, what else is nearby within the oil pan is different? For example, clearance of the oil pump to the pan? the oil pump itself? the list can go on and on.

On top of that, just because MB decided they are different cars, they may have changed some specifications on hose routing, harnesses, control units, engine behavior maps, etc. Basically, a reverse engineering project.

Common project with other engines, search this site. Oil pan is a clear difference. The approach is to buy the new engine and swap parts from the blown engine. ECU will require some thought as to if the new engine has different sensors or hardware that interface with the ECU.

New motor with same model year and same vehicle platform seems a low risk project. Please keep the thread updated.

Those engines come with 100's of variations, not only on mounts and piping, but also in tune.
I see them rated between 186 HP and 250 HP, with lot of numbers between, meaning there is no way to predict the differences from owner side.
I think if you swap oil pan from original engine, then transfer all modules and injectors in precise order, you should be able to make it running, but be ready for surprises.
I did OM642 engine swap on W211 model and the same engine coming from UK had air cooled EGR, when mine had water -cooled.
I had to fabricate additional piping.

What is the VIN of your car and the VIN for the car donating the new engine? Or both engine numbers, what are they?
