How long do you let your car warm up?

I grew up in "cold" Poland, but close to Baltic Sea, who made winters mild.
It wasn't till few years back, when business trip took me to No Dakota in -30F weather, what was 1st time in my life at this cold.
Not anymore. I know people can get desperate to make money, but all should have some limits.

Vladimir's AMG gauge hack has been very helpful for warm-up. The AMG menu adds oil and coolant temps which change from blue to white when the algorithm decides the engine is ready to party.

Everytime I let it run for a few seconds before I start driving, but when the temperatures are low, I let it warm up a little more. When I start it in cold temperatures, the engine automatically revs more, above 1000rpm for a while, then it just idles at 800-900rpm. I then know its ok to start driving, even though I sometimes let it idle a few more seconds. I have the OM651 engine, but I think all engines are built as such, to rev more on startup until a certain temperature is reached in cold weather.

My Master Tech friends at Mercedes AMG dealerships where I live tell me how people have issues with their engines because something with not warming them up to the right temp.
