First car

Hello everyone, I am considering buying my dads employees 2014 Mercedes Benz e350 4-Matic. I am looking to see if it is a good first car. I currently live in SW Ohio so I am not concerned about weather. Would this be a good first car for me as a daily? I will also add that I am not concerned about gas or maintenance prices. I also drive my dads '15 C400 so I am quite familiar with the brand and handling of the vehicles.

How many miles in the car? Reasonable price for you? Not too many historical maintenance issues?

Mine has 75K miles on the clock, and if I find one reasonably priced, and get approval to have two identical cars, I would take it in a heartbeat. I am not fond of that floating screen, nor the round air vents. Just keep in mind that the C400 is a twin-turbo while the E350 is not. I have only driven the C300 and I was NOT impressed with the suspension, nor the handling. The C400 suspension may have a different tune with respect to its smaller sibling, but that is something to pay attention to if it matters to you

When I drove her car in August it had around 85k miles. She also said there were no major issues except for the transmission TCU, which seems to happen in most 2010-16 w212's. She keeps regular maintenance and upkeep. I was planning on offering $8.5k for it, which she had already said would be plenty as it is a company re-imbursed car. She does not pay for gas, maintenance, AAA, etc.

My only issues, if I call them that, have been: transmission mount @50K, and the dreaded auxiliary battery (3 of them within 70K). Anything else has been expected wear items: oil, filters, tires, brake fluid flush, transmission flush

I have not even done brakes yet, and they seem to have plenty left, and the SA has not even suggested brakes in their service list.

Got it! Well it sounds like this would be a pretty solid first vehicle.

You are getting a good deal, so you will have money available for any surprises. What else can you buy for that kind of money that comes with prestige? A Honda?

Buying the car for that price is a no brainer. If you don't I would.

I have a 2014 E350 and I get about 18 mpg city and 36 mpg on the highway. MIne only has about 12,000 miles on it now. In 2014 MB started using Garmin head units for navigation. I had issues when car was new but after they gave me a 2013 navigation system (non Garmin) I have had no issues with the car except for the Trans having to be reset 5 or 6 times. After car had about 3,000 miles on it the trans has been working fine. The only thing I had replace is the drivers side ball Joint when car had 300 miles on it. It was humming at high speeds Dealer said it could not be the ball joints because they do not go bad. Later after testing they apologized and said I was right it did have a bad drivers side ball joint. .They had to order part since they did not carry. You are getting a great deal for that price.

i have a 2016 E350 4m wagon and I don't think I've ever seen better than 24-26 MPG on the highway, and around town its often as low as 11-12 MPG, with a tank average of 15-18.

Going to and from Myrtle beach south carolina twice. Both times I got 36 MPG car was mostly set on cruse just had to steer. Car is like new for past 5 years I am lucky to put 100 miles on it in a year. car only has a little over 12,000 miles on it. If I did not go to Myrtle beach twice car would have only about 6000 miles on it. I take it out once a month. It sits in heated garage with cover over it. wife does not want to go on vacation anymore and that is what I bought it for. Best car I ever owned for vacation.

our 2016 has about 33000 on it. its driven nearly daily a few to a dozen miles around town, and occasionally taken on day trips typically a few 100 miles out of town and back. tonight, my wife is driving th SF to the SF Opera with a friend and coming back, that will be 150 miles or something..

Mercedes ownership in America is not for everybody.
MB USA works hard to make the brand looks exotic, what generates exotic prices of service.
If you don't DIY, you will be paying for service on $70,000 car, even you buy it for 10% of it.
Lot of owners get hosed heavily, so start with finding trusty mechanic, before buying.
