Possible 2015 E350 purpose

Looking at 2015 E350. Sport. It is not a AWD model but just RWD, which is OK for me as this will a putz around car. I am familiar with the engine , but beside not having 4 wheel drive, what else is different. ie the suspension. What type of shocks, Does it have the air shocks. Im concern about the cost of repairs on them. Also, why would you not want a Sport vs luxury model. Im older type past 70 and just would like to have a E350

My Mother (age 72) had a 2015 E350 Luxury, which she unfortunately totaled (and was completely fine). She purchased a 2016 E350 Sport, so I think I can comment a bit about the differences based off her complaints about the new model.

First off, both are 4matic, so that is identical.

Here are her complaints about the newer sport model, which I believe are valid:
  • It's slightly lower - 1 inch as per specs, which means it rides a bit lower
  • The default wheels are 18 inches vs the 17 inchers she had. This contributes to a slightly harsher ride
  • The suspension is also slightly stiffer, and she complains about a slightly harsher ride
  • She misses the traditional grille and star, which is purely aesthetic
I have a 2015 E400 Sport with the same sport suspension and have no complaints. I'm also 38 and in shape, so that may be the difference. One thing that I will note between the 15 an 16 and I thought would be a major factor when I chose my 15 over a similar 16... the MB COMMAND NTG 5.0 system that was only available in the 16s looks much cooler, but I think is ergonomically and functionally inferior. I really wanted a 16 for that alone and couldn't find a suitable E400 at the time, and now am a bit glad I didn't after playing with hers. The only advantage to it I could see would being able to get carplay/android auto on the very last versions of it manufactured after April of 2015 if you're lucky enough to get a dealer who will actually enable.

One thing to note: Neither of her models had airmatic, and that is an extremely rare option on the 350s (and even the 400s, it might not even be a common option on the 550s), so you likely don't need to worry about that.

Airmatic was not an available option on the E-350. You can check the brochures for the available options for a particular model/year.

I would prefer a luxury model based on a softer ride and 17 inch wheels vs 18. Most loaded models tended to be sport though so it depends what you want. The other drawback with RWD is that the rear wheels are bigger than the front which means you can't rotate the tires so you'll only get half the rated life out of them. so a 40k tire you will only get 20k out of them.

Ummmm, my 2016 E350 Sport RWD has all four wheels sized exactly the same. I've already rotated them once without issue. Did you mean to note this for the 4WD models?
