M-B refers to it as a battery cover, but that is not its real function. It is a box that is open only for the two holes coming from under the dash. Appears air comes from one location in car and then is sent to another location, sort of. Does not draw air from the engine compartment. However, the three hooks that hold it on are not strong enough and it actually depends on sitting on top of battery to keep it up to some degree.
