I’m interested in the workings of the Thermotronic rear hvac system under the centre console. Is it just a blower under there or is there more to it? I can’t imagine there’s any sort of evaporator?

I’ve googled this and searched and can’t find anything to shed any light to satisfy my interest.

Any info and photos would be good to see

 

The owner's manual describes the "three zone" HVAC for rear air (Canadian models only?) as having the same air handling functions as in the front...

Rear control panel
K Increases the temperature
L Display
M Increases the airflow
N Reduces the airflow
O Reduces the temperature

So... I doubt there is anything special about rear A/C such as a separate evaporator. My assumption is that fan (for airflow) and temp control are just part of the front unit and the air is simply ducted through the center console to the rear vents. The rear center panel justs offers a bit more control.

I'm no expert on this, so my comments are open to clarification by others.

 

No experience with AC in the rear, but I had W211 with "4 zone" and at 1 time, driving in warm weather noticed that my blower runs much faster than usually.
Small check around the car found that my small dog, who loved to seat on rear floor with his legs on center console - reset the RR zone to 86F and the front cold was fighting rear heat.
Meaning the thermostats do the job.
