I'm ignorant to using forums, I did look on here and didn't see anything.
I've got a 2016 W212 E350 Sedan. A previous owner stripped aftermarket tint of my rear glass tearing apart my defrost lines. Not wanting to spend $1,180 I found a clean looking OEM on eBay and verified that the defrost was intact and working when removed from the car. I contacted a installer I've used for years and he told me nothing special about the job when I asked. He shows up and asks where's the moldings. I don't know what this means, I've since found out. I have the lower trunk molding but the upper molding is only available from Mercedes with a $1,180 piece of glass attached to it. I contacted PGW the manufacture for MB, they would not help. I've called multiple glass companies, nothing. Safelite is the company that I've found anything aftermarket and that's a complete install with glass at a great price but it's not OEM. All I need is this "molding" a rubber strip that should be $50
Wish I could help. Just wanted to say that these MB defrost lines are pure garbage and they should have a recall for how easy they come off or burn out.
My only suggestion would be a junkyard or pick and pull place if you have one or look for any part outs on CL or here.
No it's a great question and very valid. I have already asked a glass guy if he could break my rear glass so that area essentially wouldn't have to be cut out. He said that might work but no guarantees and additional labor because of additional time. I'm ok with the labor time is money, but I can't break my glass on hope lol.
