M157 engine swap in E550? Possible?

Has anyone ever engine swapped a M278 with the M157?

Your first question might be.. WHY?! Your second statement is likely.. JUST BUY THE AMG!

Ok, thanks for that. But no (pillarless) "AMG" exists aside from going up to the S65. So IN THEORY someone could pull out the M278 and swap in the M157 then tune the car to push 800hp+ in a C207..lmao

If there was a pillarless AMG E class coupe (around 2012) then I would have simply bought that. Not a fan of the 2014+ styling.

My very limited understanding is that there are many shared components between these two engines. Granted there are likely more differences than similarities.

Just thought this would be a good topic of discussion for W212

Ok, here comes my answers
1. Not worth swapping
2. You can make you M278 just as fast as a 63 and faster depending on your level of knowledge.
3. The turbos from the 157 bolt right up and most performance parts are swappable.
4. There are multiple cars on this forum that have gone the turbo route. Look for users named: PekkaH, Cocobeex For the bolt on route but fast there is: Nota_AMG, MJec515 and not to mention me.
5. Best to go the tuning route mentioned above.

If you have the money sure, but I would build a billet motor. If you blew your M278 I would upgrade the internals.

I haven't seen a torn block from either of these 2. Seen piston failures on cyl 1 and 5, but a rebuild with iron sleeves, and stronger pistons, rods, and crank takes care of it.
