Virgin Key
Is it worth it to buy a virgin key fob (never been programmed or cut) for a 2012 E350 from a third party and have a locksmith program it?

The reason why MB tightly controls "virgin" key fobs is precisely to limit (eliminate) third party seller/locksmiths. It's a security feature that most MB customers appreciate.
I seriously doubt anyone other than a Mercedes Dealership has access to "virgin" genuine fobs. And a generic "locksmith" wouldn't have the first foggy idea how to program an MB fob.
Search for similar threads on this topic. There are dozens. The bottom line in all of them is that there is no way to avoid going to the dealer (with your title in hand) to acquire a legitimate Mercedes Key fob.
Someone else correct me if I am mistaken.
