Can I replace 18x8.5 wheels/Rims with 18x8?

Hi,

My E350 2013 has support package with AMG wheels 18” and 8.5 width, current AMG wheels are end of life multiple times repaired so trying to replace four of them them with aftermarket wheels (keeping same tires). I found identical wheels to amg but only difference is available in 8” width but diameter is same. Would it be ok to put these on? Wheelshop (discounttire) says its ok to put no difference and current tires will also be fit on these wheels. I just wanna make sure its not gonna affect anything? Or I should look for with same wheel width?

Since i am new in this so your comments will be highly appreciated.

thanks

Lots of assumptions here. I assume that Discount Tire has verified the offsets will work with your car. The recommended tire width for an 8” wide wheel runs from 215 to 245. Since you are at the high end with your existing 245, they will be more pinched/ bulged than your 8-1/2” OEM wheel. Discount Tire is a good shop and I’m sure if you have any issue they will resolve it. As long as the offsets work you should be fine.

Thanks. My tire size is 245/40/R18. I checked my current wheel offset is 48mm and this aftermarket comes in two offset 33mm and 45mm.

How the tire fits the rim is also very specific to the brand and model of tire. On my old W211, the stock wheels were 18x8", with 245/40/18 tires. My Bridgestone winter tires looked too small for them, almost stretched, but my Michelin summer tires looked right. Some tires are also designed to sit past the lip of the wheel to protect against curb damage, so they'll appear wider despite having the same section width.
