Agree, but this thread was about considering a car with 200K miles. An alternative with less than 40,000 miles removes the high-mileage question completely. Infinitely preferred at a higher price, compared with OP's consideration of salvage title cars (other thread).

Not to mention that with a car at 200,000 miles, one will likely have to spend $4-$6K more just to get it into driving condition. So the newer car with less mileage becomes more economical after all (no longer 4x, but closer to 2x).

With his vast DIY experience and many contacts, he might know of someone looking to sell their MB with reasonable provenance.
