I知 thinking of buying a w212 e550 5.5 what are the things I should look out for ?

Last week me and my friend went and looked at a black 2011 e550 and I test drove it and loved the way it felt the v8 and the air suspension and all of that. The dealer told me that they are doing the maintenance on the air suspension for me but I was wondering if there is anything I should look out for other that the suspension?

2014 - W212 - E400 ( M276.820, 3 liter Turbo) RWD not Hybrid
Well ....

01. All rubbers and plastics hoses and fittings handling coolant and oil and brake fluid and tranny fluid........ they have age limit.
02. Suspension arms, bushings are all rubber too and those ball joints do wear.
03. If previous owner/s is poor with tranny oil change.... its a higher risk.
04. Engine mounts, they do wear/sink

The closer you get to 10 years and pass 10 years....... = more $$ for upkeep eventually.
Its all depends on how pristine and well maintained the car WAS , too.
Still... aging components are a wallet drainer reality.

From what I saw the car had 150k kms on it and it looked to have had new suspension components when I looked at it the engine was solid and the hoses were in good condition. Now that I know it is a smart buy it痴 all up to what my interest rate will be

Careful making "adrenaline based" decisions. Get a pre-purchase inspection from a trained MB-specialist or someone able to see beyond the skin of the car.

Those V8 are a pleasure drive, but are they a pleasure to maintain? How much for those extra 50K km before buyer's remorse?

2014 E550-sold 😩
I sold my 2010 E550 4M with Airmatic and lots of other nice options in 2017. It was a great car, but was already getting long in the tooth back then. I can't imagine buying that car today, 6 years later without being ready to poor lots of money into it. Good luck!

Yeah, in addition to items mentioned, probably has faded wood. Nothing to do about that though, mostly cosmetic. That's still the M273 engine so the usual stuff also, intake manifold, oil separator/breather cover, thermostat, pulleys/tensioner/belt, oil cooler/coolant gaskets. Not sure what they mean by maintenance to the airmatic unless they're swapping them out for new ones. The 2012-2014 E550's had the M278 engine which doesn't have the intake manifold problem but there can be engine problems which are mentioned in the the S550/GL550 forums but not sure it's that common the the E class. They also went from 382hp to 402hp but it did go down from a 5.5 to a 4.6 turbo. But if you do a tune, you can get way more hp from the turbo than the 5.5, but of course with a car that old, easier to blow the engine on a tune.

Post the vin and we'll see what options it has. Pano roof can cause creaking/cracking noises but can be easily fixed by tightening up 6 bolts. Bixenons might have a V notch in the headlights, mostly cosmetic.

Besides all covered neatly, I would like to add something else: engine mounts. It's probably not age related but rather related to mileage. As I recall, every 50K miles they need to be replaced .
Best of Lucks with your purchase
