Removing Service Reminder

The factory instructions were written by German engineers to explain a very complicated (to me) process. Anyway I tried them and failed, then went back and studied them more thoroughly. First steps were to raise hood all the way up & close it. Then open and close trunk and open and close door. Then I tried my more specific instructions and it worked. Had a step for select type oil used, but that didn't come up for me.
In 1975 I purchased the cheapest car Datsun (Nissan) made - a B210. It had a service reminder light that came on at 5,000 miles if I remember correctly. You opened the hood, found the little metal box on the sidewall, removed the rubber plug, used a screwdriver to push on the counter inside and it reset to zero. Put the plug back and close the hood.
25 years later and the "German technology" requires a really lengthy and confusing process.

As you said, it's German Technology , they like to overengineer everything

Thanks all for comments and now I know how to do it in 12 months. Car will be "only" 14 years old then and probably have less than 50,000 miles on it.
OK, just found a couple of YouTube instructions on how to do it. Much simpler than trying to follow the translated German Official instructions. I'm thinking the opening & closing thing may actually occur when the car is being serviced rather than just for resetting the reminder? Also, my car was built in Oct/Nov 2009 and has some older items on it. For instance, the light switch actually has an OFF button.
