Strange Failure: Mirror Separates from Backing
So, my wife noticed that the passenger mirror was jiggling. I assumed that somehow, she knocked the mirror assembly from the mount in the mirror by slamming the door. What actually happened was that the mirror had nearly completely separated from the plastic backing/mount. There didn't seem to be any "stickiness'" in the glue (if any!) between the mirror and the plastic. I completely detached the glass (very easy), then used Gorilla Glue to fix this, and put a wood shim under the mirror glass so that it wouldn't sag before drying after I had centered the mirror in the mirror housing.
This was really weird. Has this happened to anyone else? i'd be pretty darned mad if I lost a several hundred dollar OEM mirror like this. Had it completely detached while at speed, I think the wiring to the heater would stay on for about 2 seconds before the mirror flew away.
So, if your mirror seems to jiggle, take it seriously!
