Temp gauge goes 120degrees??

Hello. As i was driving today, i felt like the car was a little dead and into limp mode, and it was, i checked temperature gauge and that was on MAX but no red lights or warnings, not for coolant either, i noticed the fan was running max rpm. What can this issue be?

it also blows hot in my car and its not overheating 🤷‍♂️

As i parked, it went down to 80/90 really quick and when i just stood there, without motor going, it went up to 120 again, anyone have a clue?

I would start by visually confirming the coolant level. Do you own a scanner specific to Mercedes?

If the coolant level checks OK next thing to check will be thermostat.

I would check the actual operating temperature of the engine, with an IR thermometer at the thermostat housing, vs the indicated temperature.

I'm checking the instrument cluster block functional diagram from WIS... the coolant temp sensor B11/4 is connected to N3/9 or N3/10 (diesel vs gas ECU) On cars made on or after 01.03.2013, tthe ECU talks over CAN E1 (also CAN I, and CAN C and CAN L), CAN E1 talks to N10/1, the front SAM, and that in turn talks to CAN E2, which connects to the instrument cluster A1.

dirty trick on that needle, if the actual temp is under 80C, its shown directly. if its between 80 and 115C, it shows a constant 90C. if its between 115 and 120C, it shows 95C. if its between 120 and 130, it shows the actual temp, and if its over 130C, the red light is lit.

see the attached two PDFs from WIS...

Get a simple scanner with OBD2 capability or OBD2 dongle/gauge and extract coolant temperature data as broadcasted by the ECM over OBD2.
We know the gauge is a white liar but it is a downplaying liar to hide temperature spike up, but it is not design to scare you by showing 120C if it is not at 120C.

For diesel owners I always advice monitoring scanner, but that would not be bad idea for gasoline engines as well. You can buy a dongle for less than $20, when torque is free app and even when you spend $5 for Pro version, it will not break your bank account.
The cluster gauge is dummy gauge, showing you overheating after it already happened.
I drive with temperature display on my scanner and the cluster will show 90C, when actual temperature drops below 80C.
Than when climbing, the engine temp will go to 100C, when cluster still shows 90C.
Either way, what happened above is abnormal and need to be check.
