My Navigation programs in my pre-facelift "12 and '13 cars seem to have updated on their own, I have new features I didn't have before and the NAV screen no longer has the flat map, but now I have choices of four different views, which I don't believe I had before, any Ideas? The '12 still has the tan background and the "13 still has the grey background, but the maps seem updated? This happened early last week two days apart starting with the '12. Thoughts?
What new "features" do you have? I can then look for these in my (facelift) model.
Do your cars sit outside (for long periods) where they can receive GPS signals easily? With 3G now turned off, I assume receipt of any "phantom" updates have to come via GPS?

Well, I have birds eye view and 3-d map in my command 4.0 now and can't get the old flat map I used for 11 years in my '12, it sits in garages both at work and home but the door is open most of the time and sits by a 6' by 10' window. I don't work anymore, but I do drive it 2-3 days a week on short trips. Early last week I drove on Monday and it was normal, same map I used for 11 years, never changed it, then Tuesday it was saying I was in Detroit when I was on the east side of Cleveland, then the next day it was back with a 3-D map so I tried to change it back to the original flat map, but its no longer there, so now I have birds eye view, 3-D and topographical, which I don't believe I had before, either way I do not have the flat map I used for 11 years in that car. Similar thing happened in my '13 my wife says, but that is a '13 with command 4.5, I can't find the flat map I used for 9 years in that one either. something happened.

I have a 2012 I'm looking to update maps on. Currently have 2012 (v7.0) N.America software with 2D,3D, Birds eye and topographic map features. I think I have NTG 4.5 system. HU has SD-card slot not PCMCIA.
Owning for a few months I have yet to have any automatic updates and car is parked outside. Reviewing other threads you can find several websites with SD-Card updates and activation codes which seems to be the best method to update. I'll be looking to install the version (v20) from 2020 and see how it goes.

Are you still running the 2012 v7.0 maps or have you had any new updates done automatically? I wonder if the newest map update will be sufficient I am considering doing the Apple CarPlay upgrade. My thoughts are spend $100 or so every few years for new software which still is not current or spend, yes upwards of $300 for true up-to-date apple/google maps and functionality for good.
I have managed to stream BT audio and get the telephone function to work through engineering mode.
I would imagine the 2020 update would be great, but nothing works like live Apple google maps, When Im in AZ Iuse those as there are many new streets being added frequently, yes, most of the big streets are still there of course, when I was there this last winter, I would be in developements and the car would say "off the road"
