S212 E220 Estate suspension fault
I have a 2012 E220 Estate that was dropping rear suspension over night but that recoved quickly when the engine was started. After a few months the behaviour changed to being permanently very high and staying very high even overnight accompanied by a 'Malfunction' warning on the dash. Took it to the garage who changed the right level sensor which did not resolve the problem and then the pump which also did not fix anything. The garage wanted to change the air springs but as they will only use genuine MB parts I decided at this point that I could randomly change bits myself just as well as the garage could so I brought the car home.
I noted from the OBDII reader that the left hand rear ride height sensor was wayyy different from the left and was it fact rusted through was rusted through so I replaced that with a new MB part ( apparently carved from unicorn tusk) and the air springs on both sides with Aerosus OEM. ( the old ones I suspected had very small leaks as they had done nearly 22K on Devon roads).
Unfortunately I still have no suspension and there is nosign of the compressor running. The OBD reader and it is telling me that I have fault S5261C and that the left rear level sensor has a voltage outside the permissible range
and it is deiplaying a ride height of 128mm and a voltage of 4980 mV compared with RHS that has 1784mV and a level of -24 mm. So have I messed up the sensor install or do I have a wiring fault or worse. I need to get busy with my multimeter but it is now cold wet and dark so I thought I would ask if anyone else might has dealt with a similar issue and be abe to help out a newbie? In faylight i will have another look at the sensor incase i have installed it incorrectly but if it has too high a reading might be a computer error of some kind? Any suggestions gratefully received!
