Rear window defogger - connection for W212 E Class
The connector is soldered top and bottom to the current carrying strip
I would say they sweat solder them on in the factory
I removed the old solder from the connector by heating it with a soldering iron and applied fresh solder to tin the connector
Not much solder was on the current carrying strip connections on the glass, so I tinned them
I also tinned the face of the connector to get good heat flow rather than sweating it back on
I used a temperature controlled soldering iron at maximum temp 485C degrees.
I'm not sure what the risk is of the glass cracking, but the current strip is fairly wide to spread the heat
Hold the connector with long nose pliers and apply heat to the connector
Success and no cracked glass
I established that Mercedes had used solder rather than conducting adhesive
I wouldn't place much faith in it staying attached with adhesive or conducting the current that way
Solder is what they did, so that is the way to go
