2011 E350 120k miles gas smell when full
lifted seat and removed inspection covers on both sides. Top to both pump and filter look almost identical. Gas visible. Cannot see any cracks or something like that.
Could this just be that the seals need to be replaced or do the units need to go too?

Yes, that's why Tasos Moschatos has added checking these plastic hats of the gasoline fuel tank sender and pump assemblies for a bunch of different Mercedes & AMG chassis (E-Class, CLS-Class, etc.) to his shop's standard multi-point inspections during routine service checkups of customer vehicles... This one would surely elicit an "Oh, boy" ...or maybe even a "Dang it!"
Plastic ohhhh plastic...... 2011 to today, 13 years.
Very low heat of a fuel tank, yet plastic fail.
Now imagine our 105 Celsius cooling and oiling system using plastic....( lots of plastic ).
