I did the kit once. Definitely didn't like the results. Strikes me as the sort of thing used car dealers to get something past someone who wasn't paying super close attention. You CAN make it look OK from a distance, but it doesn't hold up for more than a very minimal amount of wear. Reupholstery has been the only thing I've seen work. The cheapest route there is to find a set of OEM seat covers, and have a shop put them on. OR, you absolutely can put them on yourself. I've not done seat covers on anything this modern (used to do a lot of classic cars) with all the extra creases and pieces, but I'm sure it's still very doable.

I've used a similar kit; the cloth backing helps stabilize the cut so it doesn't tear more, and a black compound to fill in the crack (from Amazon Coconix leather & vinyl repair kit). After filling the crack, I sanded it down flush, which took some of the dye off the surrounding areas. After sanding I used a heavy leather conditioning session and then redyed the seats. It's not perfect, but the sanding and redying got them much better than just the leather repair kit And it's certainly much better from a function standpoint as the tear has not gotten worse.
