HELP PLEASE 4matic cv axle issue very weird

Hey gfuys. 2011 e550 4matic. Right inner cv axle shredded. car still drove fine. I pulled it apart yesterday to put in new axle. axle came out except for part with spline that inserts into transaxle. I couldnt find anywhere to get access to tap it out. that is problem #1. I had no choice but to reassemble it with just the piece of the cv axle that I couldnt separate. the rest of the axel from the inner cv to the wheel hub is out. I tried to move the car and it will barely crawl. When I apply gas engine revs but barely moves kind of like when a clutch is slipping. What in the heck would make that happen? I am confused because it ran fine with the destroyed cv still in the car. basically the axel was still attached to the wheel but just sitting inside the inner cup that houses the inner cv axel (the piece I can not tap out due to no access. PLEASE HELP ME OUT. 1) how can I get access to tap out the inner cv housing with spline in transaxle to put new axel in? 2) why wont my car move when in reality only the disconnected axle is gone? I am lost. thanks in advance

I think you might need to post some pics.

As far as why the car won't move with only 3 of the 4 axles connected... It has 3 differentials. If any of the 4 wheels isn't connected, the splines that would normally drive that wheel are getting all of the torque. That connection point is going to spin like crazy and the car is going to try to apply brakes to that wheel to stop what it thinks is wheel slip. So you won't move.

Do not do this again.

You are supposed to pry between the flange and the differential housing to remove the inner CV joint. The splined shaft that goes into the diff has a slot at the end with a circular spring that acts as a detent. Just gotta pull past it. If your car is rusty, it could be difficult.

ChuangTzu is correct about the other. If you were under the car looking at the remainder of the half shaft while you tried to drive, you'd see it spinning 4X faster than it should. The center diff is sending 2X RPM to the front since it's taking all of the rotation while the rear takes none. Then the front diff sends 2X that to the side missing its connection to the wheel. The reason it's still moving slightly is due to some combination of torque split at the center diff, and driveline friction.

So youre saying part 8 in the diagram below is still stuck in the diff? I'm sure you have seen the manual that shows some type of puller tool used to remove it.

I have a leaky outer boot on my W204 on the right so I have been planning to replace it. So I havent done it yet.

with the rest of the axle removed can you fit a pair of large vise grips on going straight in, clamp them down then you have something to grab hold of and yank.
