Easy Entry/Exit Problem

2016 e350 Sedan Old gearhead guy Newbie to site

There is a menu under Convenience to activate or deactivate (
EasyEntry/Exit), but mine won't let me change it out of "Active".
This feature used to work fine tilting wheel back up and in on exit... Until... the lights were left on while using scanner and battery drained. No start, all screens dark...no lights/images..Took 1yr old battery out and Charged Battery .. Replaced Battery in car and everything appeared to work ok except for Easy Entry/Exit.
Memory positions for seat and steering column work for mem1 and mem2 when pushing appropriate button.
Start car close door, drive... stop, shut off, open door, steering wheel remains in memory position..
Connected Scanner, health checked and lots of battery voltage errors.
Cleared errors, but Easy Exit/Entry still not working, and on menu under Convenience to activate or deactivate this system (
EasyEntry/Exit), still won't let me change it out of "Active".
Connected Scanner again found easy entry reset..choose that function it seemed to work.
Started, drove stopped, park, shutdoff engine, open door exit...No fix problem....
Is reset supposed to be done with steering column all the way up and in? (will try that tomorrow but think car should not be stuck in "active mode" Other convenience mode features work correctly...)
All seat functions work including MASSAGE, along with memory setting.
Other posts I investigated with same problem never finalized solution...Did I miss the solution somewhere?
Ucanic linked video did show in/out and up/down hold button for 5 seconds.. will try that tomorrow.

Saw solution to to set and push an extra memory button #3 to get steering column up...That is not fixing issue.

UPDATE:
Hooked up Launch scanner and reset with steering column all the way up and in..NO IMPROVEMENT
Still says in "ACTIVE" mode..Can not change to Inactive.. Still does NOT go up and away when turning off car..
Seat and steering column positions still saved in Memory...
Scanner says error 9EAF97 Easy Entry/Exit Has A Malfunction The System Function Is Restricted... Current and Stored
Search took me to a link that said if in a crash this needs to be reset by Dealer..ughhh
Looking for suggestions...beginning to think it is related to some other error in the system...
No dash light errors or messages and keyless door locks all work fine along with trunk and foot kick for trunk. drove car today and Distronic with Lane keeping and distance and auto braking function as they should.

Reset for the moves on steering column I think work like for other moving thing, like for windows.

Hold the switch in a direction until movement reaches the end of trave and hold the switch for a few seconds.

For the exit convenience there is only the steering wheel move up (in my S-class also seat moves back, like in my Durango). I find it that I often have my seat at rather high position, and the steering wheel ends up in the highest position so at exit the wheel cannot move any higher. Have you checked that this is not happening? May sound a silly question, but...

Thanks for the reply, I just went out and tried that procedure. still not working as it should and still says "active" after starting and shutting off multiple times.. and yes in mine only steering wheel goes in and up to exit. Seat does not move.. My settings with the memory are seat back 70% and steering wheel back 80% and down 60%.. I am tall... Memory positions for Mem button 2 is for wife so totally different....

Also I returned Launch Creader Elite 2.0 BBA scanner as it could never reach home for a file. Getting Topdon ArtDiag 600 Pro scanner with similar attributes.. Not the Topdon Phoenix scanner like Scanner Danner showed but similar to Launch. Maybe give this one a try and get lucky with reset.

I will keep updating as I find out more...

I have the same problem with my car. A few months ago, I was reading on this forum about the same issue and I tried everything suggested, pretty much like what's been said here, but nothing worked. I recall someone writing it might be a good thing this feature wasn't working because some of the steering column components were made of plastic and were susceptible to breaking down, and that was when I stopped searching for answers. My late W211 had it and it worked flawlessly.

Thanks Pantomine, Misery loves Company..Guess I am not Alone in this endeavor ! I will succeed ! And Yes there are plastics part that wear. Although they are the stops I have been told. On my 2015 e350 It broke under warranty but in that case "they said at Dealer We replaced steering column" Hmmm.. And like your late 211 it worked all the time after fixed with Wifee and myself constantly in and out of driver seat for 9 yrs and 100k miles.. Crazy it was working before I killed the battery. Wish I had a fuse diagram.. All my other cars (55Yrs worth) had the fuse diagram in Chilton or owners manual..New Scanner comes tomorrow, Will see if that helps.. I am thinking that It is electrical and not mechanical. But it as mentioned before it still operates by manual switch and memory buttons....Got online emanual..need to play with that, but it was not intuitively obvious to load, setup, and/or navigate around. Thanks again ! will keep you updated...

I Finally rec'd the Topdon ArtDiag 600 Pro scanner and it reported that the following:
Cause of last denormalization of steering column in/out adjustment ==== Automatic normalization was performed.
Cause of last denormalization of steering column up/ down adjustment ===== Hall sensor or signal FAULTY

Looking for diagrams that show hall sensor next in the emanual.

Also I came across this other error:
9EAF97 Easy entry/exit has a malfunction. The system function is restricted. Current and stored
There was also a reference to something about crash/damage detected and restricting the system, but crash had the current mileage as I was sitting in the car. Really can not find a cure through the internet. Will check out sensor , fuses in trunk, and need to keep learning this new tool, maybe I am missing something.

Same observation on my new-to-me AMG GT C. Steering wheel set pretty high to drive so doesn’t move much on exit. Also doesn’t move in or out. And no seat movement. So the feature is kind of useless for me. My first MB, so a little surprised and disappointed. Same that the (very expensive) key doesn’t store at least one memory position.

Have you tried a system reset by disconnecting the batteries for 20 minutes? Try deleting all codes, do the system reset and see if the come back

Haven’t tried that yet. Just not sure there is enough vertical motion. Although not sure why the steering wheel doesn’t move towards the dashboard. And nothing in the manual says that the seats should move. Other cars you can actually set where you want everything to move to on entry and exit. Admittedly the manual is a little light on details.

After trying the code erasure and reset from battery disconnects, see if you get a clicking sound when you pull the lever in and out and up and down, your column maybe jammed and stuck in it's current position. If so CaliBenzDriver has an excellent thread on troubleshooting column functions,
