M272 4matic Motor Mounts
Here’s what I did:
- Disconnect battery
- Remove airbox
- remove the 2 bottom motor mount bolts from the topside with a swivel and 2 12” extensions.
- remove serp belt, and alternator. Disconnect cable from back of alternator and voltage regulator connector. Slide alternator forward and to the side in front of the engine.
- Disconnect o2 sensors and remove exhaust from manifold on driver side (left side in US). I removed both sides, but driver side is definitely required.
- disconnect top of steering shaft and push shaft back into firewall allowing steering shaft to fall down.
- on driver side use the Mercedes motor mount tool to loosen the top bolt of the motor mount. Use a 16mm flex head ratchet wrench to get it loose enough to slip over the top of the motor mount.
- lift engine to remove mount. This one will go out the back of the engine where the exhaust and steering shaft were.
- reattach top motor mount bolts on driver side.
- Lift engine on passenger side until the CV axle hits the frame then you can use the motor mount tool to release the top bolt. This side is a total pain. Work the top bolt with the tool or the ratcheting wrench till it’s loose enough to slide off the motor mount bracket. I actually had to cut the motor mount tool so that it was thin enough to fit between the bolt and the manifold.
- remove mount from front of engine where alternator was.
- reinstall is reverse.
