dreaded timing rattle
I've had this problem ever since I got my 2014 E350 a year ago. 180k miles. No codes set/active when I scan w/ Xentry:
If the car sits between 1hr-4hrs, it has a rattle on startup (first part of the video). However, if it's <1h since it's been running, it won't rattle, and similarly, it never does this cold (startup cold sounds exactly like last part of video). My guess was cam actuators - but what confuses me is that everything I've seen says cam actuators can rattle on cold startup, but this is ONLY on semi-warm.
Right now, I'm thinking cam actuator(s?), but wondering how I should further diag this. Tensioner is also suspect. I'm hoping the cam hasn't started to shift either, but not sure how to check it.
PS - ignore the intake air line pulled out in the second clip, I was checking the intake for oil and forgot to put it back.
