Is Anyone on Top of the US Headlight Laws (video)
Outside of the US, the E-class offers this advanced 84-LED Hella headlight. Includes such advanced features as automatic adjustment of the lights reflecting off a wet road or off a traffic sign.
The first HD digital lighting system from HELLA
But is banned from the US. Does anyone know where MB (and Audi, BMW, etc.) are in getting their advanced headlights to the US.
We would also like night vision, which is in the US on the A6, 5-series, and S-class, but missing from the E-class, at least so far.

Adaptive Highbeam Assist is part of Premium 2 package.
edit: Night View Assist Plus is only available on the S and CLS.

I'm confident the "Adaptive" headlights currently offered in the US are an extremely "dumbed down" version of the really suburb ones offered elsewhere. There is is some movement on the part of regulators but I have not seen any official word on new regs or exemptions. (Yet.) As background, here are a few articles that discuss the problem:
Out of the Dark: The Future of Automotive Headlights (Car and Driver, April 2016)
DOT in the Dark: American headlight regs are dimwitted (Road & Track, June 2015)
A 50-Year-Old Regulation Stops Us From Getting Cool Headlights (jalopnik, June 2014)
Basically the outdated, and restrictive, regs present TWO big problems for advanced headlights like the MB 84-LED:DOT in the Dark: American headlight regs are dimwitted (Road & Track, June 2015)
A 50-Year-Old Regulation Stops Us From Getting Cool Headlights (jalopnik, June 2014)
1) They require "High" and "Low" beam settings with no consideration for anything in-between
2) They require any movement of the beam pattern to move symmetrically. The left and right headlights can't move independently, let alone broadcast constantly adaptive patterns in the manner of an advanced LED matrix.
Let's hope that there will be some movement by the regulators as mentioned in the Car and Driver article linked above.

Not the same thing. The 74-LED light has a gradual fade from high beam to low beam with and automated dimming switch.
The 84-LED is an anti-dazzle that electronically remains on high beam while only blocking light to oncoming cars and cars in front. It also dims selective LEDs to prevent glare from road signs and reflections from damp roads.
Plus a few more tricks...I believe.

I also hope that they remove the amber reflector in the headlights, those things are so ugly. Why can't our cars be good looking and functional like the rest of the world. Such a backwards country...

I dont understand why MB doesn't just include the full multi beam and have it only activated if you turn on the high beams. The law just states that there must be a high and low beam function, and the rest of world is moving towards high beam only with dimming. They can keep the high and low beam setting in the US and just have the cool multi beam features turn on when you turn on high beam.
