E43 AMG ordered, yay!
I'm really starting to get tired of all this waiting, both from my dealer's BS and Merc's inability to deliver. Now that I know the designo package will not be available, I'm thinking of cancelling my order and moving on to the 2017 Panamera.
Did you see BMW just announced the 2018 M550i XDrive. Looks pretty good. V8, 462hp, 0-60 in 3.8s, AWD, and if seems like it will be priced to compete with E43.
Plus they have over 21 colors and 8 interior choices.

With 396hp they couldn't afford to launch the E400 because there isn't enough a gap between the E43 -and E400. My guess is when the new inline 6 E43 comes out that will have 440hp and then the E400 will come back.
The BMW 540i will be available about the same time the E300 with p3/hud becomes available - Feb 2017.

Plus the 540i will be 2018 model year vs 2017 which will be better for resale.

Key takeaways on the E43:
- altogether larger and more sophisticated interior than the C43 or C63. Still don't like the C-class center LCD which looks like it was added as an afterthought, not integrally designed as you'd expect on luxury cars in this price bracket.
- dealer expected MSRP to be $65k, was surprised to see $72.5k in the DOG
- they come pretty much fully loaded, with parking assist, sunroof (not panoramic), dual 12.3" LCD panels, Nappa leather all included
- looking at YouTube reviews seeing that despite lacking Affalterbach hand built engines the E43 has the crackles and pops when you downshift, even without performance exhuast
- 0-60mph in 4.5s for a car that size still sounds pretty impressive to me
- getting the black leather with red striping and red seat belts. Friends with this on a C350 who've owned for 3+ years still thrilled with this
- started up a C63S at the dealership. Sounds like a caged monster under the hood. Not sure I need quite that much power. The E43 is still a fast car, but it has the space for comfortable family journeys.
My only slight disappointment, besides the higher MSRP than expected, is that US versions lack the remote parking pilot. While clearly a novelty there's something super cool about extracting your car from it's space with your phone. I'm now starting to see new 5-series ads claiming this capability, not sure if this is in the US though.
My hope is that this is a temporary issue and the firmware or app can be upgraded. The issue is either safety or availability of radio frequencies in the US.
Based on other discussions on the forum, the issue seems to be Verizon and its outdated cellular technology.
What is the P03 pricing? The last time I talked to my MB rep he didn't have any options pricing.
