Refresh to the good old TORQUE RPM nutshell:

HP = TORQUE x RPM ÷ 5252

At 5252 RPM, torque and HP are equal.

Below 5252 RPM, the value of torque is greater than the value of HP.

Above 5252 RPM, the value of torque is less than the value of HP.
The new I-4 Turbo in the E300 is tuned to focus more on torque output (273 lb-ft, similar to the past V6 with 7-speed transmission,) and is paired with a new 9-speed transmission.

Around town, freeway, and everyday drive (usually below 5252 RPM, especially with the new 9-speed transmission), the E300 will handle just fine with its torque output.

During 'spirited driving' that needs to rev above 5252 RPM, indeed the E300 may run out of HP a little sooner than the past V6.

(As a side note: one benefit of the turbo I-4 engine is its 'tune-ability', over at the W205 C-Class forum, folks are already talking about turning the engine with more performance. https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...5-tunes-8.html)

Regarding pricing, the market pricing in the NY Metro area is getting more normalized. Some dealers are still trying to convince us that $1K off MSRP is just fine. More dealers are selling for 7-8% off MSRP; still not like the E212 back in late 2014 where $10k off was doable.

I was on the fence with the turbo 4 but after 175 miles of seat time, I am a happy camper.

Bingo! Where I live it is mostly 2 lanes with an occasional passing zone. I'm in the middle of swapping my E350 for a E550.

Much like where I live, making backroads passes every day in a 175HP Chevrolet Colorado that hits 60 in 13 seconds and runs a 18 second 1/4 mile.

If something as quick as an E300/E350 is not enough for you, it is not the car that is the issue.

It's the car. I drive on a lot of mountainous two lane roads where passing a 40 mph truck struggling up a grade is frequently necessary and the opportunities limited. I care little about low speed acceleration such as encountered in congested town driving situations.

MBUSA Winter Event

My dealer emailed me that they just received the Winter Event programs and there is nothing on the new E. They are very surprised and so am I.

Things can change in a few weeks as MB USA marketing continually evaluates how the new E is selling and adjusts according if they want to put some incentives on it.

Need to update my post.

As always, do not take what you hear from a dealer at face value. After calling two other dealers, I was told that there is a $500 incentive on the new E300 sedan but technically that incentive was added during the last week of October so the $500 is not a change from October (end of month) programs. Of course, my dealer has not brought that incentive to my attention but it will come up when we do the delivery papers.

I would agree it looks like leasing offers more incentives than buying...I'm looking at $60k...my salesman called yesterday and said they would go $4500 off...

It looks like inventory levels of the new E300s are starting to build up. Dealers were ordering cars in anticipation of a strong Winter Event.

Some worries expressed by my SA and his prediction is that MBUSA will need to be more aggressive to help dealers sell what they ordered for inventory. My car is being built with delivery around Christmas. I hope to see a nice downward price adjustment in addition to the nice discount I already have.
