Post Production delays for new E-Class

First off, I am excited to be getting my first benz! I have always wanted one since I was able to drive but never had the means to afford one until now. I placed an order for a brand new E300 4Matic on 10/31 and the dealer quoted me that my car would be built in November and delivered in December or January. After I had given my down payment I was called a few days later and was told the arrival date would now be April or May.

In case you're wondering what I sprung for:

- Obsidian Black w/ Nut Brown MB-Tex
- Sport styling w/ 18-inch AMG wheels
- P3 Technology Package w/ 12.3" instrument cluster
- High End Burmester 3D sound system

I was told the delay is primary due to the P3 technology package. Has anyone else run into this? The dealer is trying to find comparable cars, but not a lot with P3 were built and the ones that were, seem to be claimed already. I can't think of a reason why the dealer would lie to me about this so I guess I'll just have to roll with it.

Side questions: Given that I likely have some extra months now to beef up my initial payment - any additional options people would recommend? Was thinking of upgrading to the 19" wheels. Maybe the acoustic comfort package since I got that nice sound system? Very interested to hear what people who have experience with these features have to say.

When you went into the dealer on 10/31, did you watch him go into the Netstar ordering system and select a vehicle for you to build? The reason I ask is that I did the same thing on 8/31 and also wanted P3 for delivery in December. There were so limited numbers that he had to call another dealer to trade and the whole process took about an hour.

I haven't talked to him since that day but I assume everything is still in order. I guess I will shoot the salesman an email now. I wonder if they simply took your order and then went into the system thinking they could do it but found out they couldn't.

My options were Obsidian, Sport, 19", leather, 12.3 instrument cluster, P3, heated/ventilated seats, heated steering wheel. I think the 19" wheels look killer instead of the standard 5 spoke 18"s which are found on the C class sport. They seem a bit too common. I haven't tested the car with 19s so I hope the ride isn't affected too much.

My salesperson placed my order the first week of September. The car was produced the second week of October and delivered to me the first week of November.

I have P3, Selenite Gray, Leather, Panoramic Roof, Acoustic Package (makes a quiet car much quieter), Side Shades,
Sport Styling, 18" AMG wheels, Air Body Control suspension, Heated and Ventilated seats, 12.3" extra display, and a few more items. MSRP was $76,650, discount of $4,000 (with MBCA coupon), 1st mo lease payment paid, and the 3 year/30,000 mile free maintenance.

I'd suggest ditching the 3D sound system ($4,500) which takes up room in the trunk for the subwoofer BTW, and spending that money on some additional items (leather for one). The 3D system has more control, for certain, but unless you're going to live in your vehicle, the Burmester sound system that comes with the P3 is more than adequate and has very nice sound quality.

I am thoroughly enjoying my new vehicle. My previous vehicle was a 2013 E550, but the interior on this car is so much better and the ride is more refined. I wasn't sure that I would miss my 402hp V8, but the car performs very well in all sorts of driving. The 9-speed transmission is very refined and one has to look at the tachometer to see if it has changed gears. Of course, the engine sound is a bit different, but not in a bad way. The Drive Pilot feature works well on the highway and the adaptive lighting is fascinating to observe in action.

Definitely upgrade to 19" wheels....beside the enhanced appearance the ride is amazing..I am very satisfied with the ride of my E300 with the 19"s. When I picked uo the car they had them filled to 32lbs...Actually calls for 35+. When they needed a refill the guy put 35 in the back and 33 in the front. Rides great......curious what others are using in their 19's.

the 19" wheels call for 32 front and rear. It's on the gas door. The number you are referring to is with the vehicle fully laden.

Cool, thanks guys - already emailed about upgrading to 19" wheels. I'm a little worried by the fact that no one else has run into these production delays but I can deal, bigger down payment!

Does anyone have experience with the acoustic comfort package? It's an $1100 option.

If you live in a warm climate, the package is well worth the price because it blocks the ir/heat radiation through the glass. The reduced interior noise from the wheel wells is also a big plus especially on longer trips.

Do you have any kind of feel for how much heat it might block from coming into car? I was torn between ordering the lighter interior seat color to keep it cooler in Florida heat versus the black with red stitching that looked better IMO. Right now I've gone with he black interior but still concerned. Thanks. Regards. Ned.

I live in Florida (88°F yesterday). I highly recommend a light interior. My current ride has window film that is as dark as legally permissible, but lots of heat still enters especially through the windshield that can't have film. The acoustic comfort package has an ir & uv reflective film in the windshield as well as the other glass. The only downside is that automatically darkening eyeglasses won't go dark.

I live in NJ, it's only really hot 4 or so months out of the year. I sprung for the nice sound package and was thinking it would be nice for the extra quietness.

Just learned that my mid November build was delayed to a mid December build with delivery in January.

I am told that the 19 wheels were is short supply and may have caused the delay. Not happy!

I'm also in south Florida. My previous 2014 had a black interior but regular sunroof and the car cooled down fairly quick. I find the 2017 with black interior and Panorama roof takes much longer. Have to run the AC much cooler. Really didn't want the Pan roof for this reason but most coming in that way.

I ordered my E300, with P3, on 17 July. Still waiting. It finally made it to the port on 6 December, but now it is delayed pending "modifications". No one can tell me what the "modification are. The latest in a long list of delivery dates is now 25 December.

Hi all....I ordered Luxury E300 w/ P3 and several other extras in early Aug 2016...Initial ETA as told to me in Oct 2016 was to be early Jan 2017. In early Dec 2016 dealer told me new ETA was moved back to end of Jan 2017 or early Feb 2017...Reason for latest ETA change: Germans celebrate a long Christmas holiday season.
You are not alone!

Learned that mine was built on December 9th and is now waiting to be loaded onto the ship. Hope to have it by mid January. More than a month delayed from original ETA.

Port = Bremerhaven or the VPC? Curious if it is still at the port in Germany. My first car was held up for 2 months until the engine was replaced. I never took delivery of that vehicle.

My build date is the first week of march. No delivery date was quoted. I ordered my 43 with 20's, matte paint and essentially every option except the 3d upgrade to the audio. BTW, are they building the E in the US or overseas only???

Dealer informed me that the ship arrives in Baltimore on January 5th. Expected delivery to me 1/10-1/15. About a 45 day delay from when we thought it was being produced.
