Sorry for the late "bump"... but as future readers encounter this I have run into the following problem. In many states (including Texas where I live) 25% is the maximum tint allowed in fornt or else your car will NOT pass inspection (My CLK had 30% tint and they rejected it - I had to have it removed and redone!)

Here is the law:
  • Windshield: 25% VLT tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line or top 5 inches, with less than 25% reflection.
  • Front Side windows: Must allow more than 25% of light in.
  • Back Side windows: Any darkness can be used.
Has anyone else encountered problems with passing inspection?

It varies by state and country.

Here in Portugal, where the government likes to be a dad and nanny to everyone, the tints are only allowed from the B pillar to the back. Any tint but 5% and bellow is not recommended.

The certification cost is bigger than the tint job...

The 70% plus windshield transparency is part of the manufacturing process. The windshield does not have an addon tint. If the ACP package is sold in Texas it is legal in Texas.
