Keyless Entry Question

Hello,

Does anyone else have issues with opening the doors while the key is in your pocket? I noticed it only works half the time when wearing black basketball shorts and when I'm wearing any other clothing it works. I noticed this happens in my mom's S class too.

The real question is, is the keys next to your phone or other metal objects? It was always a problem in the older generation. Other possibility is that it's time for new batteries in the fob.

Usually I don't keep my keys in the same pocket as my phone but it'll work whenever I wear jeans which is weird. Do you think it could have something to do with the keychain the dealership gives whenever someone buys a car?

Mine was spotty when I kept keys and phone in same pocket. Now they are on opposite sides, I have zero problems and complete reliability. I've also the little merc badge keyring and home key on ring with no issues.

Mine works way better than the car I had before this. (Chrysler 300..) Only time I have an issue is when phone is in same pocket and phone is in front of key fob. Clothing has no effect in my case.

One "lux" item I do really miss on MB's is the courtesy light feature on my Acura. As you approach the car the interior and curb lights turn on without having to fumble with the fob. On MB's you have to unlock the car before any lights come on. Given that is MB finally using an modern fob design you would have hoped they had included such a simple, helpful feature but, to my surprise, they didn't. At times its surprising how some simple little things other makers have been using for a long time are missing from MBs. One glaring example is how long MB kept the old style key and klunky handsfree system. MB has always had such contradictions state of the art on some measures, but primitive on others. My dad had an S class during the 80s, it still used open ceramic fuses years after everyone else in the industry had switched to using blade type ones.

Even my 10 year old BMW remote remembered the seat, wheel and mirror settings.
That is very convenient when there are multiple drivers.

The Eclass remembers, it simply doesn't apply the settings automatically, plus, adjustment is not a simple pushbutton reset, you have to hold the memory button while it adjusts. I wonder if MB ever lost a huge lawsuit when a seat crushed a baby skull or something. Another ridiculous thing is that 50% or more of the manual is idiotic warnings and how to avoid making the particular mistake....... If you press the accelerator the car will move, DANGER!!!...... only press the accelerator if you want the car to move.
BTW, if anyone in MB reads these posts.... It would be extraordinarily helpful if the manual included a flow chart or charts of how the command system is structured. Reading through the manual is so verbose and obtuse its virtually useless. In effect, the only cogent way to learn where things are is to sit in the car for hours and swipe, twirl and push through the entire menu. And finally,.... while I'm at it, who's idiotic idea was it to put the quick dial menu in the third or fourth submenu of the phone system????? how does that qualify as "quick" to any sane person?????
Whew.... venting finished.

In my 10 year old BMW as I approach the driver's door it adjusts the seats, wheel and mirrors to match my preferences stored in my remote key. When my wife approaches the driver's door the adjustments match her preferences.

You are correct. That's why there are no #1/ #2 fobs. As you point out you have to press AND HOLD the corresponding door memory button. I had hoped that had been fixed with the new fob design. Another missed opportunity.

Well I think the reason why you have to hold the button down is because if you press the button and the seat is going back, if someone or something is back there, it'll get crushed. It's easier to stop it by letting go of the button instead of it potentially creating damage and then it stops. Also the keyless go on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee always worked without any problems. I could unlock that car with 1 finger if I wanted.

Sounds like bad battery. Try a new one.
