Major Tom to Ground Control: Is Car-to-X talking to anything yet?

If I pull up to your E300 in my E300 what if anything do they say to each other? I recognize very few cars currently have this technology. But are the ones that do talking to each other now? And if so what are they saying? Or are we waiting for some additional piece of the puzzle?

Yes it is a thing that only exists on the eclass as of yet so its very limited.

IIRC, if an E class gets into a car accident, or has a traction issue where the cars ESP needs to kick in, it automatically sends a distress signal to all the other E classes. However, going into the navigation menu, you can manually report an incident. I have done this several times, and it thanks you for supporting the system. By doing so, a triangle warning symbol shows up on my nav screen at the position where I reported it. I would guess that it shows up on every other E class in the area. I have only seen one other triangle in my nav that was not reported by me. As they expand this service to more mercedes vehicles, it will be more effective

Do we know all of what information two E classes will exchange? Location, speed, air temp, brake force, airbag activation? And if any or all above how is that info presented to the driver? Just yellow triangles? Or will an E class take autonomous action as a result (e.g. Slowing if there is a report of an airbag activation 1,000 feet ahead)? MB proudly references this technology in its ads but real world specifics seem hard to come by - even for owners.

Here's one clue...

So far there has been no agreement among mfrs as to a common standard for these systems. Until such a standard is adopted car to x will be more novelty than practical.

The current political climate is anti regulation so we may not see the above move forward.
