Engine Noise - My car vs rental

I have my car in to the dealer for a variety of reasons.

I have always thought my car was "loud" and heard a lot of engine noise, the car sounds like a diesel and a typical 4 CYL.

The loan car I have, an E300 with 1100 miles is very quiet and has a smooth, nice and deep sound to it. It does NOT sound like my car or a 4 CYL.

Has anyone else experienced these variances from car to car? The difference is noticeable and I would much enjoy my car sound more like the loan car.

Might be your E300 is the sport version while the loaner was a luxury version?
The luxury version rides on 17" wheels and has laminated side windows to give the car an extra dose of serenity.

Both cars have the sport package and the 19 inch AMG wheels. They are spec'd out almost identically except that my car has the Pirelli run flats and the loan car has goodyear run flats.

Just out of curiosity - How did you get the loaner's specs? It's always a guessing game for me. I usually browse through the COMAND system for the clues.
Lastly, any difference in the sound system? MB pipes in "enhancements" to sweeten up the sound and tame other noises via the speakers.

Both my car and the loan car are 17 E300, no differences as I can tell.

Do some of the newer 2017's have different sound?

The window sticker was in the glove box.

That would be helpful!
AFAIK, the tires and the Acoustic Comfort package would make the noticeable difference in the interior sound level. Particularly, the AC package hushes up the high frequency noises which leads to the "smooth, nice and deep sound" you noticed.

Both are P1 cars, as far I know neither car has the acoustic package. Both cars are about 59K.

There's a couple of online vin decoders out there, but I think their database might not have all the latest cars.

https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Mercedes-Benz

https://mb.ilcats.ru/

You could also pay $75 to get a 1 year subscription to Mercede's EPC-net. Used to be free. Also tells you all the parts you need for a particular VIN.

I had a base spec 220d loaner and it was noticeably quieter in the engine dept and in wind noise. Didn't get up to high speeds but I expect tyre noise would have been much less to. The loaner was about 8 months younger then mine and i did wonder, even accounting for differences in spec, if merc had made improvements to sound deadening on later builds.

The 2.0 turbo, and the 3.0 turbo for that matter, "chatter" due to the use if direct injection. Unless MB has switched to a different injector system in more recent cars they should sound exactly the same. Regardless, the early E300 I drove was silent inside, the engine "clicky" sound could only be outside of the car or with an open window. Even with an open window the "chatter" can only be heard at idle, once you accelerate the characteristic chatter is drowned by other normal engine sound. BTW it sounds like a diesel because it uses a diesel type injection system, DI.

I'd check the build dates on the VIN tag inside the driver door frame. My new E300 seems to bottom out on big bumps in the road and I don't remember that with the test drive car.

I asked the service advisor about this today, he didn't give me a response either way but said they look at it.

In my car I can hear the clicking inside the car and when I'm accelerating it sounds like a regular four-cylinder engine. In the loan car, however, I do not hear any clicking at all and under acceleration it sounds deep and smooth.
