Anyone experience the Acoustic Comfort Package?
Hey guys,
I am deciding on ordering my W213 with the Acoustic Comfort Package.
I definitely would benefit from the extra interior silence, considering I live in a busy city.
My concerns are the following:
I know the Acoustic Comfort Package provides you infrared absorbing and laminated glass for the windshield and rear windows...
Does it play any roll on the back windshield?
I am not a fan of the purple color effect you get once you tint the rear windshield on an S class, the E class usually does not have that effect. By having the Acoustic Comfort Package, will my rear windshield have a different color with or without window tints from other E classes without the Acoustic Comfort Package?

I ordered it so I'll let you know in a mth or so In the US as far as I know tint cannot be more than 15%. The front and rear windshields are infrared absorbing, I dont think that involves tinting simply a different lamination process.

The tinting laws vary by jurisdiction. In Florida the front glass must allow more than 28% of the light to pass (block 72%) while the back glass must allow more than 15% of light to pass (block 85%). The front windshield can only be tinted above the AS-1 line. There are regulations for reflectivity as well.

I have the acoustic package on my e300. The windshield, side windows are laminated with an infrared blocking film (not sure about the rear window. The side windows are marked with 30% transmission reduction. The windshield has two places to allow for a radar detector or an Express pass transponder ( you can see the locations from the outside of the car).
Ayway, since you're the first I know to have it, does it make a difference?? The car is pretty darn quiet to begin with!

I ordered this package but am maybe getting the car on may 15:th. Hoping that it is an inprovement in noise reduction.
Unfortunately it doesn't allow for tinted rear windows from factory but that could be installed later.

Porscha Macan has a similar package which interferes with the Easy Pass electronic toll payment according to the Macan forum. I don't have that package on my Macan. Check with your dealer or MB.

I've been driving my acoustic package (PAF) equipped E300 for about a month now and my impression has been favorable. It certainly is quieter than my 2014 E350. It's so good I can't hear the little 4 cyl engine banging away Still get some road noise from the run-flat tires.
The IR film built into the windshield is VERY effective. I'm in Florida and I would consider SOME type of film on the windshield necessary. I had installed Llumar's AiR clear tint on my windshield and sunroof in the E350 and it made all the difference in the world with heat rejection. In my E300 I had the side and rear windows tinted darker, up to the max allowed in Florida, and had the Llumar AiR installed on the sunroof glass. I've noticed no sunglass interference with the IR windshield, although it is a little difficult to find the 'clear' spots where an ez-pass will work. Had to look in the manual for those areas and once found, the ez-pass (or e-pass as we call it here) works fine.
Nothing extra was needed on the windshield with the PAF package. Not even sure I need to use one of those windshield reflectors when I park since there doesn't seem to be much heat making it through the windshield.

While I don't have anything to compare to, I ordered the Acoustic Comfort Package and have no regrets. Interior seems cooler while in the sun than previous vehicles and the cabin seems incredibly quiet. Again, this may be the case with the E300 anyhow, however, I'll be ignorantly happy with my decision!

Car and Driver just did a comparison test of luxury sport sedans that included an E43. Their article specifically mentioned the test car having the Acoustic Comfort Package and they felt it was a worthwhile option. The test car was the quietest of the group on the highway and they felt like the Acoustic Comfort Package contributed to this.

MY main concern is will the option cause my car to have the effect of the s550 in the photo attached.
The s550s have purpleish front and rear windshields, and greenish side windows. They are pronounced after window tints even more.
Im not a fan of that purple and green effect. My worry is this option will cause that.
Can someone please confirm.

Would you mind to give us some details on the results?

No purplish or greenish tint to my E300 when delivered. I had Llumar window tint put on side and rear windows the day after delivery. Windows now look smoky gray/black

I went out and bought it. Thanks
BTW, one of the features they raved about was the "acoustic comfort package". Unfortunately that doesn't compare it to a non equipped E class but, that among the competing cars the E class with it was definitely the quietest in the class by a significant margin.

I don't believe acoustic comfort package gives you laminated acoustic windshields. After digging into this all morning, I don't think ANY MB vehicle, including the S class, provides this option.

Correct; however, laminated and acoustic glazed windshields are not mandated by law. Acoustic glazed windshields have a layer of acoustic film whose sole job is to block/reduce wind noise (Within a specific hz range)

The primary job of the laminated film is as an infra red blocker, not a sound blocker. The "acoustic" part of the package is via increased sound insulation in the body panels and flooring. The side windows in my E300 are laminated.

The acoustic portion is actually located within the glass layers. It's an additional acoustic film that is placed within it. This is well known information.

You are both correct. I just hope it’s worth it.

^Thank you. I presume your folks' windshields with the PAF code have the word "acoustic" on the bottom corner where the part number and such is?

Well this is weird. Can someone pls confirm if your E class (Acoustic comfort package) windshields have the word "acoustic" on the logo? This is taken from a W222 S class.Note, it does not have anything indicating it's acoustic. That's weird.
