Transporting Road Bike In E300 Trunk
I have decided to start biking again, but I don't want to use a trunk bike rack. Instead, I plan to take the front wheel off and tuck it in the trunk with the rear seats folded down. I plan to use some tie-downs to keep it from moving around, but still exploring options to protect my seats and prevent any kind of damage. Has any one tried transporting a bike in your E300? And if so, do you have any suggestions on how to keep it stable and prevent damage to the bike or car? Also, will it even fit with the front wheel off and rear seats folded down? Photos would be great, and thanks in advance for all constructive feedback.
PS - I am still shopping for a bike, as I gave away my previous bike to my last gardener's son. Otherwise, I would have checked to see if it would fit.

fold down back seats
take out front wheel.
put bike in trunk, then the front wheel
Done!
I have done this a million times without any damage.

If it's a road bike, you might be able to get away with folding just 40% of the split while taking off the front wheel. It works well if you still have a child seat in the back. My trail bike and my cross bike, I have to fold all seats down. At least no wheels off in that situation.
