Sound from engine fan/ ac fan

Sound from engine fan/ ac fan not because of particulate filter
Has anyone had a problem with engine cooling that starts / stops very often? I have an E W213, 220d. The car was not like this when it was new, but after about 25,000 km it started. I hear when the fan starts even though I listen to music. If I stop in a junction, the fan stops immediately and starts often when I start driving again. This is not from cleaning particulate filter.
The workshop does not find any errors but has also not answered whether the fan should start like this all the time or not. Outside temperatures are from 9-18 celsius.
I have thought about whether it could be compressor / ac, but then I had heard the sound from when the car was new.
Have any other experiences with this?
Have a nice day

MBWorld Fanatic!
You are experiencing the particulate filter cleanout burning process, during this procedure the filter is heated up to extreme temperatures, the engine fan is running on high power to prevent damages to the engine bay.
If this process is aborted it needs to restart during the engines next startup.
So if you are only driving short trips the process needs to start over again each time.
If this process is aborted it needs to restart during the engines next startup.
So if you are only driving short trips the process needs to start over again each time.

I am not talking about this prosess. But thank you

Thanks for the post Vic, that certainly explains why on some journeys on an otherwise gentle run the car is roasting and the fan is on. Never had it with previous diesel Merc or other particulate filter equipped engines so it's good to know it's a feature of this one.
