Heads Up Display

I just received a 2018 E43, and cannot seem to activate my 'heads up display' on the windshield....
The manual does not seem to give clear instructions.
Can anyone help with this ?
Thanks

There should be button to left of steering wheel on dashboard by drive pilot and Lane assist buttons. HUD options are controlled by steering wheel controls on left side as well.

If that is not the problem, check the brightness level which is in the settings of the computer as well as the position. Lastly, if you use polarized glasses, they will make the HUD almost invisible. If its not that its broken or wasnt included in the vehicle.

Thanks for the answers, but I have now got it solved.....
It was ordered from the factory as part of the 'Technology Package'.
I since learned that as of early October, the Heads Up Display is no longer available til further notice.
My E43 was built without it.....

Silly as this may sound to many, this would have been a deal breaker for me. I have been used to the HUD for a number of years and really rely upon it. I join in that getting a 17 was a lucky move.

Froll,
You seem to be saying its a great option to have had.
But what can I do now ?
I only found out the HUD was not on the vehicle two days after I took delivery.
It was delivered last week Tuesday.

I feel your pain. I would raise a loud stink with the dealer for not having advised you at the time of purchase. I think you should be compensated since you may have (though I doubt it) refused delivery.

My girlfriend picked up her 2018 C43 Coupe about 8 weeks ago (MB of Smithtown, NY). She ordered car with very specific options. The car was supposed to have the P2 package and did not. There were a couple of things that she expected but did not notice until a few days later. The salesman never provided any pricing until the car was delivered which really annoyed me. He claimed it was not available because the 2018s were so new at that point. This guy also gave her hard time about swapping the summer tires for all season. He actually lied and said they were all season until I said why don't you look at sticker that clearly stated summer ties. He then went into a routine about not being a tire expert and basically not much he could do. I then said you are MB and your statement is ridiculous. Once she refused to take the car, they did swap the tires out. They also tried to get her to pay for the tires which did not work for them.

Anyway, she complained to the dealership/sales manager and after 3 phone calls and forwarding emails that clearly backed up her claims, they gave her a check for $1200 plus window tinting (They normally charge $500 for that).

I picked up my 2017 E300 in June as well (same sales guy) and we both were very disappointed in the experience with MB. She has been driving BMW's for 20 years and I have been with Audi and BMW. First MB for both of us.

I hope this gives you a point of reference.

Good luck.

One dealer refused to sell me the car cause they found out the dual screen + HUD is in short supply + offered to knock the price off etc but I said no. Another dealer promised everything will be in the car when the car comes in Jan. That dealership is a little bit bigger (biggest in the country for merc) I will be in jail the day after on murder charges if my car doesn't have everything that I'm paying for. JK about murder, but I definitely won't be taking delivery if the HUD or the dual screen is missing (even though I couldn't care less about the HUD) It's out of principle, because mercedes insist on giving you "packages" and half the **** in these packages you actually don't need.

Wasnt thrilled that HUD was included in one of the packages i chose, but now after almost a year with HUD I really like it, most of all the navigation instructions and traffic sign recognition projected on the windscreen.

I must be lucky. Both my 18 E43's cars came as ordered. There was an issue of cars being held up at the port for 12 weeks but that was resolved. Both cars have the dual screens, HUD, and driver pilot.

No big loss in my view. I keep my HUD turned off. I find it distracting, not particularly useful and barely visible while wearing Polarized glasses.

Angry

Oh the MB manufacturing constraints...I had no idea it was so prevalent.

I ordered my car in September of 2016 and didn’t take delivery until April of 2017 and to my surprise my loaded E43 had no Pano roof.

To say I was pissed off and disappointed is an understatement but my dealer took care of me. With a black on black car the Pano is critical to me as it makes the cars interior much brighter.

After having Pano roofs since 2009 this car felt a little cloister phobic...I went with lighter tint on the windows and just learned to deal without it.

But it does suck big time as the dealers should communicate these issues to the customers beforehand instead of pretending they are just as surprised as we were...just saying!

Often dealers do not know about the final configuration until a Monroney label is available. If a car does not arrive as ordered, don't take delivery.

The dealer would have known by looking at his build sheet and could have made corrections before the lock date. In your case there was seven months between the initial order and the delivery. The build sheet shows every option and all standard equipment.

Not exactly. I've had 2 cars with correct build sheets that had "during assembly" changes made to the configuration due to lack of parts. The changes showed up as substitution credits on the Monroney label. Both times I rejected delivery and got a full refund.

I did not know that. I have been buying these cars since 1983 (most have been factory orders) and this has never happened to me. In ELove's case, no pano roof would have been a real disappointment but after waiting seven months, I would have accepted the car rather than wait another seven months.

Indeed I was crushed.

My baby with no Pano...
