I've said it once, and I'll say it again … its unfortunate that you have to post this thread/these pics in a W213 FORUM instead of a dedicated C238 FORUM … all because the site administrator can't be bothered to create one!!!!!

I agree. IMHO the E400 coupe is the most beautiful car in the MB lineup (at least mainstream cars). Its what brought me to MB after 4 Audis.
Just a bit too low for my comfort. But I really admire that car.

Definitely good looking, but this coupe drives like the E-Class sedan equivalent, so why not get the more comfortable and practical sedan... That's what I was struggling with when thinking about it.

Yes, I test drove the E400 sedan and coupe one after the other. The steering feel and transmission and throttle response were very similar. The suspension felt very different, but the sedan had the air suspension (which was comfortable), and the coupe had the standard suspension (which was too harsh).

practical is in the eyes of the beholder … there is a reason that some of us prefer a coupe over a sedan … as your own signature block suggests

I'm 6 feet tall and wear a 34" waist x 34" inseam pant. The front seat in my E300 does not go back quite far enough. There is less than 5 inches of room between the back of the front seat and the front of the rear seat cushion which makes it difficult for ingress/egress for even a small person. MB really needs to produce the long wheel base E Class for other markets besides Asia.

In any event, no one buys a coupe for its practicality. I bought mine because I love the elegance of its design in a era where most brands seem to think you can always use an extra character line somewhere, and also I've always wanted to have a car with no B pillars that would not have to make the weight sacrifices of a convertible. As soon as this design was unveiled, the outside lines and the awesome interior were very hard to resist.

Waiting for an unavailable option
Don’t bother to wait for the S class screen just go ahead and order your E class. The true reason for the two options that are listed on the E class that are either delayed or of limited availability is that there was a huge fire in the plant in MI and of course the 12.3” screen is needed in the S class cars so if you order one in an E class you’ll be waiting forever, same thing for the heads up display. I ordered my car last week and I wanted both options but the depreciation hit makes it not worth it. Those two options are over $2,000 and if you add in the depreciation hit it’s not worth waiting for even if it does come 6 months late.
Just buy the car and forget the toys.

Ordering a 2019 E class
The low down on ordering a 2019 E class is as follows:
If you want the S class sized screen 12.3” you can’t get them, if you want the speedometer on the windshield you can’t get that either. The reason is the supplier for the parts that make those options for MB
had a fire so that whatever they have in stock will go to the S class cars. If your dealer tells you anything else it is a bunch of bs.
The onlynpossible way to get these options is if your dealer already has an unsold car in the que scheduled to be built, then he can swap that car for one you want but it must have those two options already in the build,
you can’t add them. That’s the straight dope.
Finally, as much as I like the E class MB totally dropped the ball on this version, the W213, I only hope the W214 is better, a lot better. IMO this version is a giant step backwards, it’s underpowered, it’s plain ugly and to option it out properly you need to add $10k
to the base price. This car is supposed to be one of the best made, a Cadillac is $20k less and has more power and you don’t need to add another sack of money in options that should come with a $65k car!

The "plant fire in Michigan" made magnesium parts used to hold the dashboard in some MB vehicles. Hard to understand how this would impact the screen for the digital display and the HUD unit.
I don't doubt MB dealers will give BS to cover for them, but this sounds a bit fishy to me.
It is certainly the case there have long been supply issues regarding the 12.3 unit (my dealer told me it was the glass covering the combined displays), and I didn't want to wait long enough to get it. So I got the "Q03 option", but was able to get the HUD. Personally I don't miss the digital drivers display, but I'd really miss the HUD.

The Caddy actually costs more than the E300. I priced a Cadillac CT6 online with options to make it similar to my E300. The CT6 list price is $70,210 which is more than my E300. True it has 17 more horsepower. But it lacks soft close doors, wood & leather steering wheel, LED headlights, etc. It has 1 year of OnStar connectivity at a cost of $350 per year versus 5 years of free mbrace® Connect. It is made by General Motors, a huge drawback. EXCEPT the plugin hybrid version is made in and imported from China.

In my view, the problems with Cadillac are the build quality in general, the interior design and quality, and the infotainment system. It's a shame, because the exterior design is nice, the engines, transmissions, and suspensions are good, and the handling is good. They're mostly good, but can't get the complete package right.

I don't hear a lot of people complaining about the quality of their iPhones.
Japan was a 'cheap' joke when I grew up, and their cars and production methods eventually set the standards for how we do it now in the US.
Hyundai's were a joke when they first came out (and a lot of them still are). But the Genesis is a pretty decent car now.
I can understand the angst about China, but underestimating what that country is capable of if they put their minds and government behind it would be a big mistake.
