2018 E-Class Infotainment Changes

I drove the E63S Wagon this weekend (which was amazing) but also found out a few new things about the 2018 models vs 2017 for the digital displays.

1. The 2018 units are a full-led backlog display vs the original edge-lit displays on the 2017 models.
2. The standard gauge layout apparently has some new display options, though I wasn’t able to check them out.
3. The progressive display (with the central tachometer and speed numbers) is much easier to use and has slightly larger left/right additional displays. The right-hand nav window in the digital cluster was bigger and more legible, and it was much easier to cycle through the other options.

Interesting info, so far no official word from MB about any actual changes to the hardware of the displays, would be nice to have side by side comparison between the different lighting for the displays.

I’ll know next weekend when’s my car arrives for sure, but I’m almost positive then 2018 display backlighting is indeed different from looking at it (sales guy who also is a fellow mercedes fan told me it is fully backlit now). I am certain the interface itself is updated though as I’ve used the 2017 a bunch already.

I’ve been trying to find official word from M.B. as well but so far no dice

This could be why they had a shortage on the screens and put a Global Constraint on them earlier this year. They might have been waiting on the new updated units…..

Just curious, what do you mean by full LED? I hope like hell they're not going to OLED or similar -- those displays will burn in very quickly in a hot car.

Not OLED, just fully backlit instead of lit from the edges.

It seems like Mercedes has been using OLED displays from LG since the launch of the W213.

.
I understand that LG OLED panels have "self healing" technology to address any burn-in issues.

There is no way that the screen has an OLED panel

2019 E63s
I had an early 2018 e63s ...

Now I have a later production model of the same car. There are significant differences in the software both in appearance, functionality and speed. I was also missing some apps like trackpace and other non essential items.

That's what I'm thinking as well. The viewing angle seems narrower than an OLED screen. I'm also used to OLED screens being a bit over-saturated in the color department.
