Gas cap tether question
We live in an area where we don't pump our own gas, so I wonder about the gas cap repeated banging into the paint while it is suspended from its tether. I know there is a holder on the gas door hinge to prevent that from happening, but I doubt the gas pump guy will bother with that and will just let the gas cap rest against the side of the car, eventually dinging it and/or scratching it.
The tether is easy enough to snip off without effecting the gas cap's functionality. My question how many of you have done this?

Solution 1: Pump your own gas.
When those memes hit Facebook two weeks ago about people in Oregon freaking out because they had to pump their own gas now...I thought it was a joke. Then I realized these people blabbing about danger and inability to pump for lack of knowledge had me rolling on the ground laughing. How they didn't drown in their morning cereal bowl is beyond me!
Solution 2: Ask the attendant to use the cap holder.

Some areas of the country won’t let you pump your own. NJ being one, iirc. I would get out of the car and NOT Allow the pump jockey to let it drop on the paint.

In New Jersey & Oregon it is illegal to pump one's own fuel. This year Oregon lifted its restriction on counties with less than 40k population.

The gas cap is literally a piece of plastic. It is not going to damage the paint from a light tap on the paint. As long as the guy does not slam the gas cap into the same spot on the car multiple times as hard as he can, I think it would be fine.
