Engine temperature

Has anyone noticed the engine temperature indicator at the bottom of your tachometer does not match what your COMAND reading in your central display.

I found the COMAND has more accurate reading which starts from a really low temperature e.g. 4 degree Celsius when you start your car in the morning, after 5 minutes driving on urban road, it goes up to about 20-30 degrees. But the one in your tachometer shows temperature about 60-70(half way between 50 and 90) degrees, which makes you think the engine temperature is around 65 degrees already, but actually only 25 degrees.

And after 20 minutes driving, your central display shows temperature about 60 degrees, in your tachometer, it shows somewhere between 70 and 90 degrees.

This is really misleading if you don't check the engine data information.

Well yes and no because the command shows you engine oil temp, which takes longer to warm up compare to engine coolant, which is shown in the tachometer.

Thank you.

That makes sense. so I guess if I want to use the engine to heat the air inside the car, I'd better wait until the engine oil temperature to get warmer instead of the one for coolant right?

just set the heater to your desired temp and the interior heats up as soon as it can.
you don't have to wait for the engine to heat up before switching on the heater.
