2018 E400 and iPod controls
I have finally connected my iPod Classic and/or iPod Touch in the center console of my 2018 E400. I have plugged them into the usb connectors and the Media setting finds and correctly identifies them. The problem is that I have 12,500 songs, 2,400 albums and 5,000 artist in the library. The dealer led me to believe I could use the Voice Control Button on the steering wheel to select a song, artist, album or playlist in the iPod library. When I select that button while in Media function, and speak a command nothing happens. The dealer has not been able to make this work. Any suggestions and help will be appreciated. I cannot believe that I have to scroll through an alphabetical list to find my music selection?

I have an ipod as well and voice command works.
however if you try it immediately on startup it won't always find anything.
maybe it needs to re-index each tim you start the car.. not sure

it SHOULD work with ANY media device - (definitely works with a usb stick )
Again, I've had moments were it just seemed to hang (endless search),
but seems that happens just after start.

I currently have a 1TB USB HDD connected up to mine. It takes the system quite a long time to index everything each time, to the point that I'm considering switching over to an SSD.

Take your choice of SD or SSD media. They can all be made to work with a USB port. There is are USB ports in the armrest console and next to the charging pad. That said I don't recall the file limits of the MB entertainment system, but I think the number is smaller than what terabyte media can hold.

2 TB. That is a TON of storage if you are just using music. At that point data transfer rates are really important, hence BeachBunny's move to a SSD. Good SD cards can do ~95 MB/sec which is pretty fast for smaller amounts of data.

At typical compression rates 2 TB can hold more than 2 million minutes of mp3 music (128kbps) or more than 142,800 minutes of H.264 video (1.5mbps). Still there's that pesky 50k file limit that will severely restrict music, video not so much. mp3=1MB per minute H.264=14MB per minute
