E400 speakers
I noticed in a recent photo, in the W213 Picture Thread, a speaker inside the car abutting the outside mirror. I only have some black cloth there, although on the passenger side there appears to be something behind the black cloth.
Is that speaker the extras for the Bumester system? What is behind the black cloth, is that the collision alarm?

The base Burmester system that comes with the P1 package has four 1 inch tweeters. If you are talking about the area where the window narrows down on the front of the door, that is one of the four tweeters. There are two in the front (L&R) and two on the back doors (they appear to be under silver Burmester domes in back). Since they are high frequency tweeters you may not notice sound from them.
The High End 3D Burmester has its one inch tweeter there too. On this system, the tweeter is a special 'ring radiator' which is notable for high frequency 'purity' (at least that's the pitch). A downside of ring radiators is that they tend to be very directional and beam the sound more narrowly than conventional tweeters. As I understand it, this is why they are designed to twist out when the stereo is on. They are positioning themselves for better alignment with the passengers' ears.

I did the flashlight thing first. I can see something on the passenger side, but not on driver's side.
I will check with dealership during service call.
