Digital Instrument Cluster - 17' E300

Hi guys,

I'm back. After 3 years with a BMW 2015 x3 35i M-sport, I've decided to come back to MB. I had a W204 back in 07-2011 and I missed that little tank.

So now that i've decided I'm back to MB, I have made my decision on a used W213. I really want the digital instrument cluster but I'm finding that they are really hard to find. I saw a couple of youtube videos of these korean guys retrofitting one though.

My question is, should I just wait until I find a used w213 with a digital cluster? Or just find a good deal on one without and hope that a retrofit kit will come out in the near future? What would you guys do? Does anyone have any connections to a dealership that may be able to help me out? I'm in Southern California.

Thanks and best regards,

Digital Instrumeny cluster

The digital Instrument cluster only comes with the P3 package on the 17. It will be very difficult to locate a used one with that option at this time because of the cost. Most used at this point would me dealer loaner cars which are generally P1 package cars. I purchased mine new and had to scout the country to locate one a 100 miles away.

I definitely would not recommend trying to retrofit one because I am pretty sure there are wiring required not included on cars without not to mention programming them. It’s not just swapping Instrument clusters. Do be penny wise and pound foolish on such an expensive car. Just my two cents as an MB owner for the past 20 years

I'm new to the Mercedes world but have years of experience doing complex retrofits on BMW and VW/Audi cars. I can't speak for the feasibility of doing this on Mercedes yet, but using my previous cars as examples, I'd wait to find the spec you want. There's always a large cost involved in retrofits plus the potential to damage the parts and/or car. A retrofit wouldn't typically be covered under any kind of CPO warranty coverage and having that peace of mind is always a bonus.

Thank you for confirming this. After purchasing new a mercedes previously, I don't want to take the hit on the first year of depreciation lol. I guess I can wait a little bit longer to wait for used 2018s to come out.

on 17 w213, digital instrment cluster was also availabe in P02 package.
And yes you can swap to one if your car doesn't come with it originally, but it needs coding and a bit of rewiring. I have seen people do that, I believe non has done in the US, but in Asia, yes they were able to do, not retrofiting, they bought the OEM part and swapped it out, so it works flawlessly.
But it's always better if you can find a w213 with p02 or p03 package, avoiding the hassle of doing a car surgery.

Wait and try to find a P3 but it will be awhile. You might have to try buying new at end of year for savings. (we got 11% off sticker and built it) They are VERY hard to come by. Our build took 6.5mo because the screen was on a global constraint and it held up the car. That being said, I wouldn't ow the car without it. It makes the interior and sets it apart from other luxury cars. We love our W213.

I see several listed on Autotrader. definitely do not try a retrofit.

I have the digital instrumental cluster in my 17 E 300 and I love it. I am in a standard loner E class at the moment while mine is in the workshop for scheduled maintenance and trust me it’s a big difference. You will regret not having it, so I would suggest you either wait to find one and dish out that extra money for it or never ride on one with because you’ll be mad at yourself.

It does come with the P3 package and outside of the extra options you get, the screen resolution it way better than the standard one. I have retrofitted a few things in my E300 but that’s one I would not take a chance on. Not worth it!

Thanks for the advice guys. I found a P1 E300 for a pretty good price (~$40k 10k miles). But I think I will hold off until at least end of summer.

Best,
