If the ride on the E53 is the same as on the E43, then it will be pretty harsh even with the 19" - the suspension is quite stiff even in the comfort mode. The 20" will make it even harsher, and it will make the rims more vulnerable to damage from potholes and curbing. There are no pros, just cons (other than maybe cosmetics).

The difference in ride quality between 19” and 20” will be minimal at best. People always over emphasize that.
The type and brand of tire has a far more significant impact. A great non run flat tire like the Michelin PS4s will do the job.
I have to to admit that I haven’t driven a E43/53 and assume it will be between a mushy E300 and a super stiff E63s. That car will loosen your fillings in race mode
The E53 will calibrated somewhere in between on purpose and the I recommend the 20” with good conventional tires and adjusted tire pressure.
I have had cars with 19” & 20” rims. Zero difference on pothole damage IMO

I ordered a 2019 E450 today and was determined I wanted the 19" wheels. The dealer really really pushed me to not spend more money and get the 18" wheels for the reasons listed above. When you consider tires are expensive puppies, you don't really want to be putting new rubber shoes on the car sooner than you need to.

I have driven the E43 with the 19" wheels and the standard RFT tires. The ride is pretty harsh in comfort mode - you feel everything on the road. It's a shame because the car has air suspension which should have enabled them to provide a more comfortable comfort mode, while retaining a stiff sport mode. The air suspension is kind of wasted on that car... This will be a disadvantage of the E53 as well if they kept the same suspension tuning.
Our E63s has air suspension and it has zero give. It will make look the E53 like it’s riding on a cloud.
Not saying it’s good or bad but it is intended.
Run flats are are also adding noise and roughness to a ride. The thicker sidewalls can also contribute to easier rim damage.
