Does the automatic parking also parallel park?
Active Parking Assist searches for suitable parallel or perpendicular parking spaces to either side as you drive by. Choose a space to pull or back into, and it can expertly shift, steer and brake for you. When it's time to leave, it can also steer you back out. In any low-speed maneuver, sensors in the front and rear bumpers help detect nearby objects within their field of view. Audible signals and illuminated displays in the cabin help you navigate tight spaces with confidence. Note: This may be called "Parking Pilot" outside the U.S.
Remote Parking Pilot:
PARK PILOT is a new technology that allows drivers to park their cars with a smartphone. Basically, your phone becomes your controller to guide vehicles such as the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class into a parking space. This will come in handy when it is finally brought to the U.S. because it allows you to fit into parking spaces that you otherwise would not be able to because you don’t need to open the door. PARK PILOT pulls your car into the tight squeeze and backs it out for you when you are ready to drive again.

Active Parking Assist is activated automatically when driving forwards. The system is operational at speeds of up to approximately 35 km/h. While in operation, the system independently locates and measures parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.
I find it useful as the seating position in the SL is very low and I cannot see the corners of my car (I'm 6'2"). It works very well for me but I've read the manual and understand the limitations.

actually i mostly park on slots with a pillar or wall on the driver's side to give a lot of room to the guy next to me on the other side... that's why having the ability to park the car from outside would be a great functionality, if it works...
i think this is a world trend but people in my country have a lack of attention to other people's cars. it is really outrageous

How can a top brand like MB not have a parking solution that works flawless?? I mean, even entry level brands and models are now shipping auto parking features. Unbelievable...
I selected the parking and remote parking optionals just because it is common where i usually travel to find parking spaces where the car will fit if i am out of the vehicle (otherwise it will be a pain in the a** to get out of the car and later enter again).
