How long will a custom order in US take?

I am wondering what the delivery times are for a custom ordered car in the US? Looking for the features in P3 package with Drive Pilot, Multi-contour seats, Digital instrument cluster, HUD, etc.

it honestly is better to call your dealership with the build you have in mind since I think there might be a delay again with the HUD and digital instrument clusters (not sure though). If there isn’t one then you can usually expect to receive it in 2-3 months. After they submit your order into the system it will take a while to get a build date but if you get a build date for a week or two later, the build process takes only 2 weeks. Then it takes 6 weeks approximately to have it shipped from Germany to the VPC in USA. after it arrives at the VPC they’ll inspect it and do other stuff which could take a week or longer and then they’ll release it to your dealership.

I submitted my build 3 weeks ago. It will be ready for pickup from the factory (European delivery) December 5.

Pulled the trigger and custom ordered an E450 Wagon on July 2nd. Went into production first week of September. Loaded on ship September 21st. The ship is a local, not an express, stopping at every podunk port in Europe. ETA in Baltimore is October 6th. Who knows how long it’ll take to get from Baltimore to Connecticut. So, for me it’ll be at least three and a half months.

Vehicle carriers are all "local" as they stop at each port that has vehicles to load or offload. That said most ships spend very little time in port. A typical turnaround is perhaps 4-6 hours. When my car was shipped there were stops in the UK and Baltimore and Charleston before arriving at Brunswick. Total transit time was 17 days. The VPC kept the car for several weeks. With the name of a ship one can easily track its progress including the arrival & departure times at each port.

Two ships that left the day before went straight to Baltimore, each ships trip was 6 to 7 days. My ship spent 36 hours at the port of Zeebrugge, now to Le Havre then to Southampton. In the scheme of things no big deal, but I am getting anxious. I am tracking the ship via the Vessel Finder app. Do you have a better way?

6-7 days is extremely fast for a RoRo ship. (I do not think there are any.) To travel the 4584 nm between Bremerhaven and Baltimore in 6 days the ship's speed needs to be 30 knots. A typical RoRo ship such as the 5 year old Fremantle Highway runs at an average speed of 13.2 knots and a maximum speed of 21.8 knots.

Whatever. My point was, that two ships before the ship my car was on , went straight through. So I got the amount of days wrong. No big deal. I was just trying to give the OP the time frame it was taking for a custom order.

what’s with the attitude? All we were doing was responding. We are all here to help each other, not get pissy.

Just my $.02:

I am ordering an E450 with digital instrument display. At this time dealer says that is not a problem. He advises that if I place my order by Oct 10, car will be here in December in time to replace my E350 which comes off of lease on December 30.

If it is late, no big deal as I can always extend my lease another 30 days.

I am not ordering the HUD or fancy interiors or leather seats which might extend the build time.

If your car is here in December, from an order placed by October 10th, I'll be very surprised. I hope that happens, but it usually takes longer.

I placed an order for an E450 in early July. The car is still not built. It will be built in the first decade of October. It likely won't make it to my dealer until the beginning of November. This is more representative of how orders really work.

We ordered an E450 Sedan on April 5 with all the electronics including HUD, large screen, etc. I was built in June and has been in Baltimore since July. Dealer told me today that if all goes well it will be at their place tomorrow. Hopefully delivery on 9.27.

Dear RBRYLAW

I thought you and your partner both bought 2018 E Classes and canceled your order for the 2019?

For our e450 we placed an order in April and it was built a few days ago. September 3rd was when it was completed. However it hasn’t been assigned a ship yet so I’m guessing sometime October or November is when we’ll receive it. All in all it took around 5-6 months almost. They told me if I reorder another one or cancel it then the next build date they have available is for December. The bigger dealerships here seem to have already received a couple of E450’s and if I order one with them instead as a 2nd one they can get a November build date.

Yes, we bought 2018 E classes, but for whatever reason, my dealer didn't cancel the order and managed to let me know it would still be coming if I'm interested. Turns out I am interested.
