Burning smell sometimes coming from rear wheels
I'm sure i read something about this here on the board, but can no longer find it;
someone mentioned the smell is normal when car is new as it's the coating on the tailpipe that burns away.
but after 15 months i still get the smell every now & then. can be cold or hot weather, rain or shine..; it's completely random.
it smells like burning rubber, but it's definitely not the tires…
any thoughts?

Can't speak to the E class per se. However, with my 911, if I drive particularly hard or if it's warmer out, then small particles of tire rubber can get thrown/deposited on the exhaust mufflers, heat up and then smell similar to what you've described. However, with my 2015 e350 and presently with my 2019 e450, I've yet to notice that same burnt rubber odor.
I notice that you have a CDI, is that a diesel? Perhaps it's emblematic of that type of engine?

Hi do not worry it is the dpf regeneration. Smells really strong and as if something has gone horribly wrong....
the GLK i had smelled strong the 250 c class was not that bad but the e is quite strong. It also makes a marked difference to fuel consumption when it is in progress........there will be a lot of heat and if you stop part way through the fan runs for a while after you stop the car. The car will restart the process on the next trip if it is an incomplete regeneration.
hope your underground car park is not as tight as they usually are i found them a tad stressful too many high kerbs, barely wide enough ramps and hidden posts
commiserations on the news re the building collapse nasty business.
