Me App- 19 updates in past year- recommend reinstall

I had some annoyed mornings with the Me app not working. I would like to warm up my car when the wind chill is 16 degrees out lol.

I noticed this morning it kept saying System Error and figured this was a deep rooted issue.

I reinstalled the app and it works now.

19x updates??? How can this app be so buggy that it needs that many updates in 1 year LOL. The developers must be high school students LOL

I will start doing clean reinstalls more frequently, I just don’t trust this app lol

I'm just grateful I can access it at all. It took 3 weeks from taking delivery of my car for the programming team in some little town in Germany, to get Me Connect to actually connect with my car.

It's actually a great app. And once they got me connected has been very reliable.

Try connecting Mercedes Me to Google Home/Google Assistant to bypass using Mercedes Me when it’s not working. I’ve found that Google Home was able to connect to Mercedes Me when the Mercedes Me app is being dumb. You’re limited to only lock/unlock, remote start, and sending an address, which are pretty much all of the remote commands for Mercedes Me anyway. Google Home won’t be able to tell you your car’s interior temperature.

I accidentally figured out I could use Me Connect with Alexa as well, though as noted above, the features you can use through Google or Alexa are limited from everything you can do on the app, but sill I can lock, start or send an address via Alexa to my car, so that's pretty cool!

Guys,

We are living in the past. My wife got a Tesla M3 last week, and she can see real time location, vehicle speed, climate controls, lock status and a bunch more. She can turn AC/heat on and off remotely; lock/unlock remotely (doors and trunks), and much more, and don't even ask about MB drive pilot versus Tesla autopilot (years ahead).

I love my E400S but wish MB would get their act together for trivial stuff like the Me app, so that 2018 MY cars are not antiques compared to 2019 models etc.

Tesla autopilot has plenty of flaws, and is in some ways less safe than MB, Cadillac, and Audi's system. Here In Ohio in 2016, the death of a man whose Tesla hit a semi-truck while Autopilot was engaged...the Tesla system didn't slow down the impact as it was designed to do.
Just recently, California Highway Patrol officers spotted a man apparently sleeping in the driver’s seat of a Tesla Model S going 70 mph down Highway 101 and had to use their police cars to force him over. He had his Tesla autopilot on.

Tesla Autopilot has now been changed to force you to grab the steering wheel as well. Though people have figured out ways to by pass it.

Also, please tell me what the Tesla auto pilot system does that the new 2019 MB drive pilot system does not.

As for your wife being about to see her vehicle speed....I think I would panic to see that if I was eating at a restaurant and I checked my app and my car was on the move...lol.

Have you actually driven both cars (Tesla M3 and W213)? The semi-truck incident is old news. My opinion, having driven both 2018 MB drive pilot and current Tesla autopilot is that the latter is much safer, and a much more elegant implementation than the 2018 MB system. I've not driven the Audi or Cadillac so can't say anything about those systems. Common to both Tesla and MB is the requirement to let the vehicle know the driver is still in control by slightly moving the steering wheel every few mins, so the days of back seat driving, or falling asleep at the wheel are long gone. I agree that Tesla was crazy to allow that in the 1st place, but that was removed many months ago. In meantime my MB happily crosses double yellow lines when drive pilot is engaged, will run off the road when encountering a slightly more than gentle corner. The Tesla never did this when I was driving it on the same roads.

You need to drive a 2019 MB. I had a 2018 and the 2019 is much better, does not come out of lanes, takes corners 100 percent better and does not flukey things like my 2018 did like try and cut off exit ramps on highways, that setup was down right dangerous. I really like the adaptive cruise in both my new 2019 Cabriolet and Wagon. I'm not sure exactly what MB did whether adding more sensors or just software, if just software I'd hope they would be able to upgrade the 2018's but MB is famous for not wanting to do that sort of thing when it probably could be done. No complaints from me though on the current Distronic setup, lots of complaints on my 2018 E63 AMG Distronic. I did not feel comfortable at all with that setup.

That's good to know. I'll contact MB USA (after all Christmas/Hanukkah is here) and ask about updates; my E400 is just over 6 months old so naturally I'll be disappointed if the response is to upgrade to 2019 I'll post on the form once I hear back.

I know this is a side question for 2012 mb merc, is the E63 a good daily driver? You have 600hp and I wonder any car even out to a Bentley with all that power is it too wound up to drive around easily?

If a car is designed to go 200mph, tolerances have to be sooo tight, body panels cannot have gaps, windows have to seal, everything has to be perfect at those speeds.

Is this a daily driver for you?

The location, engine controls and lock status/control are all in mercedes me, so not that far behind. AC/Heat is tricky since with the ICE those are dependent on the engine. When you turn on the engine, it does engage the climate control to the last setting though (not the same, I know).

Haven't tried drive pilot yet, have heard mixed things. We'll see I guess. All-in-all, I'm grateful for Tesla for really forcing innovation on the software side of the automotive industry (as much as the engine / power side, if not more). Tesla's view of the world as more of a software company is totally changing the game. They don't make a 600HP wagon though, so I went with the Merc, but the Merc's better for having Tesla on the playing field for sure.

2012 merc amg beat me to it. The 2019 E3450 CAB drive pilot has been near absolutely perfect in its operation in my car. It's rock solid in the lane of my choosing, and literally drives itself. Just requires you to nudge the steering wheel once in a while, which all these systems should. I have driven both the Tesla and Cadillac systems. Cadillac's only drawback being it only operates on highways and no where else. Of course, to fully appreciate these systems, you need more than a test drive. I love the speed limit function of the MB, which will adjust the cruise speed depending on the changing speed limits. We have a lot of speed traps on our Ohio highways where it will go from 70 to 50 to 65 in just a few miles stretch; with little or no road signs.

By the way, that CA incident with Tesla was just a few days ago. https://www.wired.com/story/tesla-sl...est-autopilot/

Maybe this will make you feel better. We're gutted we can't use some of the system features you can over there. For example, we don't get the full Intelligent Lighting system and we can't park or summon our car remotely from the app in the US.

That's interesting. Was any reason given as to why? It's not a feature I would use often, but it is one I would like to have the ability to use.

I would have loved this feature as over here in the UK, parking spaces tend to be quite tight (especially when compared to the US), not to mention my garage - so I imagine that I would have made good use of it.

I read somewhere (a few months ago) that a lot of people were having problems actually using the feature because of the app. I would have thought/hoped they'd rectify any issues as surely they would need to for customers that already have this feature, instead of pulling the plug on the latest cars.

Here in the states, we were told we couldn't use it because of Verizon. But they switched to AT&T for connected services for the 2019 model year and we were hoping the feature would be opened to us as a result.

Fingers crossed they open it up for all of us. It would be great to have the ability to use it if and when needed.

That's probably only for the UK. I have a MY 2019 with remote parking (The Netherlands) and it's still available here and in Germany also.
