hmmm, not sure how I feel about them possibly sharing vehicle platforms but an interesting read nonetheless

I dunno, BMW platforms are pretty darn good, so maybe some sharing would benefit both brands?

They are indeed, I've owned a few BMWs

There has been some collaboration between these two in the past but it's usually for the purposes of cost saving, not necessarily delivering better products for the end consumer. Although that is often a happy outcome in any case, as each generation of these vehicles continues to improve upon what it replaces (not always in every aspect, I mean in general - hopefully this doesn't kick-start an argument). I think my concern is that too much sharing could eventually lead to diminished differentiation between brands. Just look at what goes on in the Volkswagen group.

I guess, as long as any potential "sharing" is strictly limited to what's under the skin, there should be little to worry about

Each brand has very specific DNA in their approach and execution of cars. I don't imagine we'll be seeing Bavarian Mercedes Works anytime soon!

Reliability of MB will go down following BMW. Look at Consumer Reports, reliability of BMW cars go down to hell after 4 or 5 years.
